World Class Manufacturing (WCM) at Tarkett

World Class Manufacturing –WCM–
is a continuous improvement program, which was inspired by the lean
manufacturing methodologies deployed in the car industry,
in particular by Toyota. It focuses on the elimination
of waste and losses, everything that does not contribute
to adding value for the customers. WCM at Tarkett is a global program which is applied in almost all
our plants and distribution centers. The target is to improve
the industrial performance in terms of safety, customer service,
quality, environment and cost. It’s a very structured and
progressive approach. To develop this performance,
the best way is to develop the people. Developing the people is about
acquiring knowledge and also about transferring this knowledge
from one person to another. This will create a system where the people
are more and more able to provide solutions, to solve issues for the benefit of the business. Using WCM, the best successes
have been achieved in safety, which is one of our core priorities at Tarkett. We are now reaching almost
the best in class performance. In five years we have divided
the number of accidents by 4.5, which means that roughly 170 accidents
have been avoided. We also improved our customer service performance and now deliver on a consistent basis
an on-time delivery of 97%. Lastly, we are very proud to
deliver on a consistent basis savings which amount to at least 2.5%
of our manufacturing cost. The operations leader program
is about rebalancing the ability of our managers to manage teams and also to develop
them thanks to knowledge acquisition. At Tarkett we believe that the managers
are really driving the change in the plants. Besides, new leaders have
recently joined the organisation. We also need to prepare the succession plans, therefore new talents joined
the program as well. The first session of this pilot program has
just been completed in one of the Tarkett plants and the feedback is extremely positive. So we really believe that this initiative
will boost our WCM journey again.
