I’ll tell you what we’re focused on and
give you everything that you should be
following in reality we’re talking about
changes in human behavior so let me give
you a couple of examples what if I told
you ten years ago if you’re looking for
a partner you should go to online dating
you might have said then it’s a little
creepy today it’s become a norm
do you remember maybe you did this or
you’ve been told this you know when you
were growing up your parents were strict
about never getting in a car with a
stranger today 16th birthday’s don’t
necessarily bring a new car they bring an
unlimited Uber account right on their
phone a little different you remember
the days when going to a mall was an
outing what about just opening up Amazon
and shopping online told you so! What
about when you needed services around
your home whether its roof repair
plumbing or whatever you used to open up
the Yellow Pages today you probably use
a Google search look I could go on and
on about different behaviors and changes
and the way people do things but I think
you get the point we’re all doing the
same thing we’re just doing it a little
different so that was what propelled us
to look at the strategies that we need
to follow and what
to implement in order to continue to
grow our car count through 2019 and
beyond number one and you might be
thinking this has nothing to do with car
count but I promise this is huge we
focused on the similarities of customers
instead of talking about the differences
in our shops I know you operate a repair
shop and the other guy operates a tire
shop and you know a transmission shop in
a general repair shop and you’re all
thinking you’re all different well first
of all I’m going to tell you you’re not
all different you’re in that same
business it’s being treated as a
commodity but look at focus look at what
customers are doing and how they’re
engaging with you where are they finding
you so all of your marketing has to
focus not on what’s different about you
but the similarities of customers and
their behavior the second area that
we’re focusing on is getting attention
let’s face it you know you can do this
test right now pause this video look
outside the front window of your repair
shop see cars driving by well you can’t
tell me that those cars don’t need some
service whether it’s brake service or
anything else maybe it’s alignment what
about a simple oil change they’re not
coming to you because you got it you
haven’t got their attention but let’s
face it your customers lead busy lives
it’s not their job to remember you so
how do you get their attention to get
them back into your shop well we’ve
determined that we got to work in
multiple channels what do I mean by
multiple channels I mean everything
first of all Google says that 82% of
customers are going to find you first
online so what’s your website doing is
it inspiring people to you know pick up
the phone and call you or book an
appointment online do you even have a
website
Do you know what customers are
looking for when they get to your
website there are simple things that
every customer that lands on your
website is looking for and you’ve got to
have that right there we’re also taking
a serious look at Google
use let’s face it probably the one of
the most powerful things in ranking your
website on Google search is how many
reviews you have what about things like
me or me you know when customers are on
their phone and they’re looking for an
auto repair shop near me do you realize
that near me is actually a search term
that’s being used and if your website
isn’t set up properly with the right
schema data you may never get found on
Google if the customers right outside
your door
what about direct mail Oh direct mail
isn’t dead I promise matter of fact I

that will build relationships with your
customers it’s only gonna cost you 17
cents oh yeah you got to bring your

you’re gonna tell me that people are you
know not opening emails though email
open rate is down and all that well
there’s a lot of reasons why that’s not
happening for you because the only time
you’re contacting people is when you
want them to buy something you’re not
staying in touch with them and building
that relationship what about text
message marketing I have to tell you
since I’ve been deeply involved in this
with over a hundred and fifty thousand
text messages being sent off our systems
I have to tell you I’ve learned a whole
lot about text message marketing and
that’s another strategy that you must
look at it’s about getting attention on
multiple different levels or different
channels so that you’re in front of your
customer all the time number three we’re
focusing our efforts on consistency
being consistent at our marketing look
there’s nothing worse than trying to
plan a Black Friday promotion on
November 23rd you’re not gonna put it
together fast enough it’s not going to
work so when a marketing calendar is
used you’re looking at all the things
happening over a quarter or over a year
and you’re planning that in advance so
that you know when you have to start
getting in touch with your customers but
consistency
is probably one of the well
amongst the underground group of car
town hackers that I work with they rank
