Theatrical Robots

Theatrical Robots

We’re working with great explorations
here at Dollar Bay school and collaboration is with my music machine lab at Michigan
Tech which deals with sonification, assistive technology, the robotics you’re
seeing here. Creating short skits or plays for the kids to interact with the robots,
where both the robots and the children are actors and its to expose kids to
both technology and the arts and combining this to a novel and interesting ways hopefully getting them excited for both. We’re finding that the kids adore the robots they’re excited to see them every week. We didn’t bring them a couple weeks to try and work on other things and the first thing they asked was
“where are the robots?” the kids are loving working with them and hopefully learning about how they can be programmed we tried to teach a bit of that and just how
social robotics works and some of the ways that we might be able to use robots
more in the future but they’re also being introduced in the challenges of technical difficulties we have working with these robots now. Things like the voice recognition not working in crowds or not focusing on the right person and
the programming delays and things like that Robot: Happy national robotics week.
