The XF gets a Rego check…

The XF gets a Rego check…

on this episode we get the XF registered so they can take it to its new home where it will get the engine transplant so me and Rylan about to dive into this we’re gonna clean up some of the engine bay we’re going to fix some rough spots what happened is I took it to the mechanics we’re here in New South Wales and each year in New South Wales in Australia you need to get a CT pea-green slip which is kind of the equivalent of comb-over roadworthy it’s not as detailed as if you have to take over the pits like a blue slip but um but it’s still just to make sure you can’t say there’s certain things that all the cars have that will automatically fail it the biggest one is rust new cars they’re painting technique in metal preparation is so much better than what was back in the old days so there’s old cars like the old XF basically they stopped running because they just rusted to pieces so that’s why they’re not as common and a little bit rare it’s kind of like a little bit of fun to play with this thing this car is actually very good with its frame and chassis but it has some spots of rust that are starting to show as they wouldn’t care they sold and some of those spots actually getting to the point where they’re starting to get serious if we don’t check them soon then they’re gonna get worse so for now because we eventually want to get this car down to Victoria once this cars in Victoria you don’t need to worry about the pink slip anymore which means we got far longer so if this car sits in the shed for three years I just have to pay the reg of each year no one checks it which is a good thing when you’re restoring it it’s a bad thing if you’re actually not looking after your car and your car is rusting the bits and has no floor anymore and you can see the road through your foot well and that kind of stuff obviously that’s not very good and you can get away with it in Victoria and Queensland a lot of other states you South Florida can’t actually good things they can’t the safer New South Wales but for this case we don’t really want safe it is safe but it’s not going to pass so we’re going to get it ready for reg oh so we’ve gone on mechanics though guys are really nice as it can you give us a checklist of what needs to be done to pass and I said it’s what we need to do besides that we’re just giving this car really good service because this count is going travel 1,000 kilometres with the trailer which is like over 600 miles in the States so it’s yeah it’s a decent amount of travel for an engine that’s not doing so well I’ve got no issues I’m sure the cattle do that plus more but yeah which is why thank you make sure we dip in the stereo zone for fire so anyway that’s a let’s get to fixing up some of these things so we can get the pink slip to get the cavalry registered to get it in the Victoria where we don’t do worry about if you sleep we can actually fix the stuff problem you we’re going to be working on this patch within the engine bay just as I guess the first one it’s it’s one of the ones where when they look at it you know if it’s rusting the engine they’re not gonna part it so we’ll fix that first it’s not bad it’s about yeah the size of the end of a cup yeah so the end of that it’s not it’s not very bad it’s not all the way through in most with bit of a couple of spots are well good is some rustenburg it’s just a a substance that will stop the rusting process for sure well that kinda idea sand it back the affected area and they’ll put this on you leave your song for about fifteen minutes to half here so I’ll get this on there then I’m going to work on the roof just because we’ve got some a little bit wet outside while we’re under shelter why I can get to those bits I’m gonna put our rust converter on the roof and make a bit of a mess there then after that’s being done I’m gonna fill the spotting here just with some bog obviously this is not ideal like the goal for this car is actually go to get it running to drop the new engine in to turbo it to be a to have some fun and okay putting filler in rough spot is not how you do that so the only reason we’re doing that now is to get a pass Reggio eventually when we pull this engine out and we’ve got a nice clear engine bay we’ll cut out that piece and put a bit of plate there and do it properly but for now we’re just getting it down to victoria quickly but obviously you know I don’t want if this does sit in the shape for two years that I want to come back in it there’s a size of a football rusted away because I didn’t do it properly I didn’t read it before I sealed in the moisture with bargain and primer set Alex so yeah why feeling like that yeah yep so I went to wait to put that on good yeah it’s cleaned up enough and put a bit of filler in that the sports that need to fill up then we’ll come up with better and put some primer and stuff but all these coolers are over yet they’re very that’s good to be yeah bit of a target just a little bit you can see it’s already got filler there this is all being done before but I’d say it has actually been treated rust treated second seats it’s had a paint obviously a pretty bad one once again more filler this is not the first time this kind of his heavy silver stuff done fill it in paint um yeah obviously it wasn’t ready to jump that’s why it’s all coming up every way that’s going yeah thanks looking like that just coming off as never put on properly soon that’s right so let’s put on let’s do fill up do it properly so it is a day to getting the car ready for reg oh and just so happens that today is just perfect it is the beginning of August in Australia and this is a Sydney winter fantastic so that’d be awesome we’re gonna fix up the rest of these these patches so perhaps dear we’ve actually got that one today things like getting to the sort that one yet then um the door trims and the bobbin here to fix those up this road and seems a little bit of rusty on the bottom here not too bad yeah we’ll fix that up then I’m seeing back if the work we did the over there soon becky EPROM in its say it’s all going really well yeah perfect day for my dancing a bit of primer and a little bit of like well you’re doing as simple as we can maybe rattle cans tonight we’re hardly pulling out the big guns I’m pretty sure if you ever did a paint course they tell you not to do that Boggan rattle get under the roof like just yeah half its primed yeah just to see if we’re driving around I don’t want primer primer can absorb water it’s not professionally Oh newest exhibit a probably can absorb absorb water so I’m staying sure that I’m that sealed in but was gone I can’t afford our black corners why I chose black at home then I just knew that that paint seals really well so let’s get going eventually you’ll probably end up painting this cowboy but that’s not how I would paint in it and except for maybe a plastic panel if you’re something small not worth pulling all the gear if I was ever gonna paint something that size you know like a you get this beard about that be on a full can of spray and this sort of gets smaller and it’s terrible you get it get a proper can get a compressor get a paint gun and take about a quarter of the time for doing it twice three times as much paint as dodgy that I don’t care that’s how much listen a lot check that out that’s just terrible why he called you hiking it’s just gross so what I’m working on there me and the speakers at I’m I’m not getting the camera under there but I’ll explain basically what’s happening here is this has like teeth and that fits up the pitman arm fits up on a large bolt with like a thread fits into the teeth and the bottom part is threaded you screw that up to get this out because it seats so firmly because of the heat and the movement of it all you end up getting um at seats in so I’ve just got a poor so two claws grab the edge of it and the center one pushes that bolt a up as your screw it and pop that that came off really easy this one have a bit of trouble with almost there I’m just doing the opposite of that one we’ve got the core on here pushing down that bolt that should come off so almost there so this just really didn’t want to let go there so there’s the old one that’s fix you feel you can feel the wobble in that which means there’s wobbling the steering wheel because when the steering wheel tries to turn that and what will give give give give give give you say old and busted accepts downs Ryan should be good save again ready we have the pink slip XF reg aid once again it’s sometimes it’s who you know who you get great guys down the mechanics once again I can’t say the name they didn’t do anything dodgy they cover themselves if I were to look at it and I can say that it’s been repaired I don’t know the condition of the repair but it has been repaired so they’re covered it’s all good it’s all this yeah it’s all good say yeah awesome so XF back on the road next thing to do with it is just tidy up a couple of little mechanical things this thing guard so it’ll fix this bracket on the rear sway bar it’s all sitting home ready to go with what you actually use sway bar pushes so we’ll check them in it then yeah then we can yeah it’s ready to go give it a bit of a bit of a service and then um yeah off to Victoria with a trailer full of everything we need to swap out the engine including the engine so what’s what is the next you know step for this I guess would be we’re gonna um drop the v8 in it get that running so first thing is I want to get the engine in there and actually get it running get it doing what it’s meant to be doing that’s number one once that engine is in and running we know that’s all good then we’ll start on the turbo system for it the turbo system I’ve got a couple of queries that I’ll start researching as well the big one is sort of there’s a MAF sensor and I want to see what that looks like with a turbo system I don’t mind having a math on a turbo but maybe there’s another way of doing that we’ll see I’m just for looking the computer and how that works I really don’t want to have to put an aftermarket computer on this car yet the big one yeah but first things first let’s enjoy the moment we’ve worked hard a few nights a lot of dust a lot of sanding filing all that stuff not enough sanding and not enough filing enough cutting definitely nowhere near enough welding and patching because we didn’t know any of that which is obviously what we have to do to get this car the way it should be in the way it deserves to be get this thing back to its former glory Milo’s underneath the couch shouldn’t shake that exhaust not anyway might do that well we are when we fix the we get under this to fix the sway bar over there lay down car’s gone well good reg a legal driving my legal excess rather than doing the old trip to get bits not that I was driving legally never been driving damn the mechanics to get a checked and driving back and thinking along man how does that work yeah sorry ha that’s good that makes me happy that yeah pressure your car’s not running and you’re running out a reg oh and your deadline it’s the second year in a row I’ve got a car that’s been out of reg oh and the deadlines been coming up before I can actually get it fixed and running it just sucks last year I was rebuilding the NPS and it was a derecho and I had about three days before the Reg oh the three-month period after the Reg I ran out before car would have to go over before it over the pits and obviously the engine rebuild my way we did it for fuck’s sake oh that was crazy down stressful so I’m yeah the second year has been out of reg a and had to do work to get a car to pass
