The Best Cars from the 2019 Detroit Auto Show

but Brett are you live this isn’t on anymore Dodie I’m gonna tell HR you’re pushing and shoving you gave me your consent earlier oh hello everybody and welcome to the 2019 Detroit Auto Show my name is Jodie this is Craig Cole and we’re from Auto guide.com and this is a really special Detroit Auto Show it’s the last time that the show will be in January is true yeah so in 2020 which is next year the show will actually be moved to June which will be nice because it’ll be warmer it is every week of Detroit Auto Show it’s like the frickin tundra it’s literally the coldest week of the entire year anyway if you’re watching on Facebook thank you so much for tuning in Craig and I are keeping track of your questions so if you have anything you want to know or maybe you see something you wanna you want to check out just let us know and we’ll try to answer your questions if you’re watching this on YouTube maybe leave your questions in the comments we’ll see if we can come back to them later yes so let me just I’m cueing up the the feed here there we go I will finding it online but it looks like it is up now so what you just said questions comments post them up we’ll do our best to answer them but we’re starting here at the Toyota booth yes and this is argue the most important car I think the most important thing to come out at this year’s Detroit Auto Show and it’s the new Supra so this has been a long time coming it has been 21 years since Toyota has had a Supra and four years since we’ve saw that really dramatic ft1 concept that kind of foreshadow that’s correct and when that car did when that concept debut everyone went nuts people were so excited about it four years later people seem to be a looming that’s very angry about the Supra and there’s a lot of traversée surrounding it people are saying oh it’s not a true Supra how come it has so many BMW elements like they ruins the super nameplate like what’s going on people just love to carp about things I think so no matter what Toyota did I don’t think they could have made everyone happy but here’s here’s my point of view on the Supra I’m just happy it’s 2019 and we’re getting new sports cars yes and this looks like it’s going to be a pretty good one obviously very close partnership with BMW on development and production of this car a lot of BMW parts 8-speed transmission 3 litre turbocharged inline 6 giving you the typical 335 horsepower you get in BMWs these days it seems which is probably a conservative figure I wouldn’t be surprised if you strap this to some rollers that had put out a little bit more so the BMW said 4 which shares the same engine actually puts out a little bit more horsepower and a tiny bit more torque and that kind of leads me to believe that there is room for tuning brothers room for special editions so I think it’s actually a good thing that they gave us you know a little bit scaled back version but it’s automatic only and I think that’s what’s gotten people’s dander up people are mad about that but so the 8-speed Auto Sammy had just I drove it he drove a prototype model in Spain last year and he said the 8-speed is fantastic it’s as good as any other automatic out there I’m sure I mean these modern automatics are so good they’re faster they’re more useful they’re on paper better in every way than a manual and that’s fine I was talking to Toyota people earlier and they said they’re still considering a manual transmission yeah we’ll see if there’s enough demand for it if the market can justify making it yeah then they might bring it so you know in a couple years it’s something that we might see we might not see the main point here is that if you want one you have to tell Toyota you want one like scream yeah scream about 100 manual go out and buy more cars with manual trans that sends a really strong signal that people are still interested in them yep but supra we got a weight kerb weight should be right around or maybe a little bit less than 3400 pounds yeah about 50/50 weight distribution which of course is perfect what you’re always looking for especially in a sports car Brembo brakes up front goes on sale in July with a base price of about 50 grand yeah so not too much money what do you think of that pricing it’s an interesting price point I mean I kind of expected it to be more to be tell you that did you expect the suit to be more of like a Nissan GTR competitor or more a little bit not a full-on GTI expected to be closer to the GTR than it is okay which is why I would have thought a higher price tag so Sammy when he drove it he said that the Supra drove a lot like a front-engined Cayman okay which that’s a good size and so I thought that little bit of feedback was very very interesting yeah that means they’ve done because they benchmark for shows when building this everybody does yes Oh makes a lot of sense exactly so what else can we tell you about this let me ask you this Jody what do you think of the design it’s very smooth curvy it’s flowing it’s different right I know it’s quite controversial from the rear and the rear 3/4 I think it is fantastic I love the silhouette I love the aggression it’s like not I don’t think it’s overdone in the back in the front it starts to fall apart a little bit like people really aren’t a fan nice but it’s not neither is it this here is this a Camry in Avalon I don’t even know that’s a Camry yes the TRD that’s a lot of grille I’ll take that soon and no matter people weren’t really sold on that net nose area but in general I actually really like the design I think it looks aggressive I see a few hints of Alfa Romeo 4c in there the silhouette is classy you can tell just by looking at it this this is a legit sports car insurance that’s what they were going for but shall we head over to the Nissan booth now I’ve got a concept to talk about mention two more things so one of the things is that right now there are no special edition models they’ll have a launch edition which is the the first edition that they’ll sell to the market jack Hollis of Toyota said that in about two years is when we can start to see kind of special edition models once the sales start to go up so that’s something to look forward to okay but if you have any questions about the Supra let us know we spent a lot of time talking about it so there’s a lot to cover so if there’s anything else we didn’t get to make sure to let us know yeah so Nissan should be over that way there we go we passed it on the way in so we’ll wander up here because they have a another all-electric concept the common thing that happens at all auto shows these days more and more V’s that’s your trend obviously and I don’t disagree with it but that’s just like so cliche helmet it’s the way things are going right so I understand the need for it this this is actually a concept car not a production car but yeah again if you’ve got questions or comments post them up in the live feed here on Facebook and we’ll do our best to answer those also I think it was Henry over in Hong Kong was saying hello so hi alright so here we are this is a denis on ims concept and it’s a concept for all at IBS oh tell us how you really feel good they actually billed it as a lifted sedan so it’s not quite a crossover they call it a lifted sedan you can tell it’s kind of an interesting profile like it yeah so 483 horsepower all electric 590 pound-feet it does what electric motors do they have done the torques the torques 115 kilowatt hour battery packs theoretical driving range again this is a concept feel a theoretical range 380 miles which is plenty yeah absolutely after wheels with carbon-fiber tree yeah and of course it’s fully autonomous but how do you get in there’s no door handle but if you can’t take a peek in the inside cuz the interior is pretty cool it has interesting cuz it’s fully autonomous it has lights you can’t see them on now but they’ll tell you when the car is driving itself kind of to warn pedestrians and other motorists and it has an active air suspension to make sure you you stay comfy that’s important yeah especially if you’re not driving yourself you kind of want to you can just sleep and snooze yeah so let us know what you think about the design the concept I like the look of this look at the very sort of the crisp very strong yeah ends on the car that you don’t see pretty like a pretty I don’t want to say simple but it’s not overdone yeah and I think a lot of designs these days can be overdone yeah I know when to put the pencil down exactly but this is this is classy I quite like it a nice look at the IMS concept what’s next on our list Jodi uh we can head over to Lexus which is back that way kind of backtrack there aren’t any steps there oh we got over here has anyone fallen off the stage yet can I be the first that always scares me at auto shows we always talk about like uneven floors Roman mica is commenting in the chairman mica TfL he’s a buddy of Auto guide oh we love Roman and his crew he stole Steve and Elmer from us he’s gone forever you know he was actually sitting like three seats down from us it oh yeah media room we’re still friends oh yeah oh you’re salty Jody I’m I love TfL guys they’re a bunch of really nice guy yeah yeah Russ’s hi Craig hi Jodi hi iris I believe he’s an Indianapolis oh cool are you a race do they do we have viewers from around the world here Hong Kong we saw Hong Kong Henry Yan I believe cool isn’t home all right well here is the Lexus LC convertible no this is set it is a concept cons is a concept car we’re not sure right now if it’s a hardtop or a soft top but a lot of people are saying that the LC should have been a convertible from the from the get-go probably I mean I’m sure they engineered it to provide that drop top capability right from the get-go I mean and why would you not I’m sure it’s coming like as far as I can tell this looks pretty production ready yeah so we don’t really know much about power would be exactly the same so it’s a hybrid v6 and there’s also like an excellent v8 option I love v8 and Lexus does naturally aspirated v8 now which not too many people do know says fYI we steal all our news from auto guy now I know he’s lying all the views they’re stealing views or news or both news but I think both maybe so he came in swooped in like a like an eagle talons out snatched up Steve I think we have to do a TfL versus Auto guide video wouldn’t have a series of challenges oh yeah so LC convertible the same dramatic design giant grill smooth flanks you get on the coupe model but with an open air and for a Grand Tour that’s absolutely perfect that’s what people want that’s what you need so what if they had another the other fear that Lexus came out with at the Detroit Auto Show was this and this is the RC F track package and this is all new so what this track package does is it essentially makes it more track ready obviously there’s a whole bunch of carbon-fiber bits on here the naturally aspirated v8 is still an offer but it gets a whole bunch of aerodynamic and suspension upgrades and lots and lots of carbon fiber so I imagine it’s going to be very pricey but pricing has not been announced yet carbon fiber makes Jody all spensive it’s very experienced the other thing that’s gonna really drive up the price on this it has carbon ceramic brakes oh that’s like a 10 grand expense because 10 grand good buy if you want those but if you track your car you were the best thing yet it’s better days they can just hold up to endless punishment I remember we were driving the Aston Martin Vantage in Spain and they had us on a track you were getting 150 miles an hour in the street and time after time after it took they had us on for like 20 minutes sessions of homeless and rakes were fine until like the last minute yeah then they were like oh we’re running out of stopping power here yeah that’ll is going a little song if you track your car carbon ceramics are definitely really awesome Henry wants to know in a second foe on the LC I think we just recovered it would be the same powertrain yeah this LC is a concept but it would have pretty much exactly the same specs as the current LC yeah so that would be like 1 354 horsepower for the hybrid v6 and like 471 yeah and so the Lexus RCF track edition also has where was I going with this carbon fiber carbon fiber brakes that will stop for days BBS feels 19 inches so this is a rather interesting Detroit show this year because we don’t have Portia oh sorry I totally it just came to me it has launch control now which you never used to have which will help you get that really fast zero to sixty sorry but I was saying Portia Mazda mercedes-benz outie BMW where are they they’re all missing from this year’s coupe yeah they got tired of the cold I guess maybe next year they’ll come back in June hopefully because we have so much open space on the show floor this year there’s like a whole section of like custom cars in the back there are suppliers that are here gack booth all the Chinese oh yeah yeah but let’s keep going this away oh let’s go over to Genesis there was something special that I wanted to show you at Genesis and it is our g70 car of the year is that this one so this is the G 70 right here and when we drove it we were really impressed by pretty much the whole package driving dynamics features luxury it doesn’t interiors beautiful great interior great attention to detail just feels like it’s yeah oh yeah so it’s our car of the year and I actually wanted to show you the fancy award that we gave it Brad do you want to come over here for a quick second so Genesis has been racking up the awards this Auto Show and this is the one that we hand it over to them yesterday we knock the others off the table yeah so congrats don’t touch the award didn’t like my yeah so quickly wanted to show you that we can move on and what’s next on the list kiyow kiyow kiyow is over there kia is over we’re over there going through the benzo crafting the core crafting the core what are they showing here I don’t know they’re a supplier yeah so things can unity and stuff when you cover supplier stuff because there’s so much advanced technology so many like sensors that companies build or other components it can be difficult to sort of cover them sometimes right well we’re here at the booth and we wanted to show you the new kia telluride which is Kia’s new eight seat 3-row crossover that competes with cars like the honda pilot the volkswagen atlas the subaru ascent and shares a platform with the hyundai palisade and many mechanical components as well yes they have a lot of similarities but rugged style here room for up to eight passengers and I’m sure a very premium interior because he has been knocking it out of the park lately when it comes to cabin quality and that does look pretty nice in there it is pretty good they have some pretty interesting trim pieces I’m going to see if I can find one for bass in the back I’m sure these seats tumble and full access to the way back if you want but 3.8 liter v6 291 horse 262 torque should be running on the atkinson cycle if it’s same as in the hyundai palisade so it should be pretty efficient I think I used to have a was it a 3 3 v6 in like the Santa Fe Excel lab because they what they’re doing there they up size the engine to 3.8 liters because when you run it on the atkinson cycle which burns it runs more efficiently but you lose power so they went to a slightly larger displacement because it gives you the torque back so very nice and it should be able to tow up to 5,000 pounds 8-speed auto four trim levels no pricing yet goes on sale later this year yep what do you think of the styling do you like the kind of boxiness I almost fell off this be careful I’m not take I’m not hauling you over to the first aid booth this is very like Land Rover or Explorer sort of yeah but I kind of like the boxy styling it looks nice yeah absolutely John Massey’s Vikes nar says a 2011 volvo just called and wants its taillights back ok Evangelista says hello hello Jose oh hi I’m sure I’m pronouncing his name wrong hi Jose um Infiniti contract let’s go over there watch the steps yes auto shows are all about remaining upright because it’s very easy to trip I’ve done it so many times too but never on camera which is what really scares there’s a first time for everything judge so we’re headed over to the Infiniti booth I had an ice-cream display again was that somewhere else I think it was here and then people thought we were buddy one guy was like oh man he’s like don’t you be stealing my Sunday Buster Brown yeah so here at the Infiniti booth we have the QX inspiration this is yet another you know all-electric crossover concept that we’re seeing a lot of these now because that’s just where everyone’s going so I believe that there’s not even any specs or anything about securely in the concept stage but it does show you that Infiniti intends to make an electric crossover in the near future would like every automaker I guess yeah and of course this one is autonomous hmm what other buds buzzwords are applicable dynamic it seemeth stainable is it sustainable validation bear with me mobility always gives me energy mobility is the worst so yeah there’s like an interesting light up badge there you know light up infinity there’s an interesting story about the unveiling oh that’s true do you want to tell that one uh well I guess they had some technical difficulties I think it was yeah so what happened was the car was like waiting backstage and then they were like here’s the new infiniti QX inspiration and then it just didn’t show up like it wouldn’t start and it was stuck behind the curtain very embarrassing for them I mean that’s the ugly truth about things sometimes stuff you can test and you can you can practice it sometimes if just doesn’t work right so the fact that it even runs to begin with it wasn’t just like a show yes that’s a push but in the ends they end up pushing it out on stage but shall we go to Volkswagen sure because they have a brand new wish perhaps one of the snoozy reveals of the show yeah I mean it was already a pretty quiet show yes so again if you’re just joining us now get your questions and comments in the facebook live we’re doing our best to keep track of those as we’re walking here and we’ll try to answer your questions as we can we’re going to hit up Cadillac a little bit later Rams got some big news coming up lots of great stuff going on here at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show but Passat yes I think there’s some on the podium there you have a number of them so here we have the new ish Passat essentially it is a refresh model so everything under the skin is pretty much the same powertrain suspension all that kind of stuff hasn’t changed they’ve done a few tweaks they’ve got I think the same horsepower a little more torque up to 7 basically a different version of the Toledo very fresh the looks a little bit so it’s like a little bit sharper all around updated design language it’s still powered by the 2-liter turbo 4 that’s in like all the Volkswagen products it’s a great little engine mm-hmm yeah it’s I mean it’s a it looks pretty good but I guess people are kind of or other automakers are starting to step away from sedan so this refresh kinda brings it a little bit more in line with its other competition I would say so it’s not the most exciting car to look at but I think this is one of those handsome designs that will age very well because it’s true you look at a Camry today it there’s a lot going on it’s visually more exciting but is that car gonna be attractive in 20 years it’s gonna look so yes yeah whereas something like this it’ll look great for much longer than that room giant trunk there are a lot of reasons to buy one of these truth be told yeah and good warranty cards I love these little these crisp lines they do on Volkswagens it gives you this little like shadow underneath which sort of they have a name for that I don’t remember what it is probably like dynamic fascination solution line what’s the horsepower of the Volkswagen Passat asks humble murukku that would be 207 torque more torque same power as the outgoing model any other questions being asked here yes I’ve been missing a couple because I didn’t have it in the right viewing mode here let’s see is this the last NAIAS on a january slot yes yes indeed of June starting next year so it’s gonna be like 18 months before we have a Detroit Auto Show yeah people are really excited for the show being in the summer that means that people coming to the show can go outside and do test drives and stuff like that they’re gonna make it more give it more of a festival vibe I hope it’s good you can be outside enough Hospital exactly outside right now so I’m kind of excited to see what the show it might be a nice change and inevitably it’s freezing as we mentioned earlier it’s the coldest week of the year when the Detroit Auto Show goes on this year as a final like middle finger to everybody there’s a giant water main break in the city so nobody could drink the water like really come on I got to brush my teeth with bottled my last couple days okay so Russ Henry is asking between Detroit and Chicago which show do we prefer and that’s obvious I think it is Detroit Chicago show was very quiet pagó was great to cover because it’s clearly open yeah it’s a huge Convention Center McCormick Place yeah there’s usually not too many people so it’s easier but Chicago focuses a lot more on trucks and suv’s so you can expect to see some truck news at Chicago but they don’t normally have sports cars and stuff that you guys like the most but we’re at a Cadillac now we have some important things to look at here the xt6 which they’ve got right here this should be the sport line model they should have – there’s a sport version and a premium luxury version but this is their new front-wheel drive based 3-row crossover that’s finally coming out a little late to the party but I think it’s quite a handsome vehicle a lot of people I’ve been hearing complaining about it this is underwhelmed by it well I think it’s too late they they think it’s not enough effort from from them it doesn’t have super cruise no turbo boosts yeah and it just seems like a missed opportunity because you look great it’s amazing it’s like the ground breaking it’s it’s it’s just an incredible piece of tech and Cadillac owns it right now yeah else does anything like it so why wouldn’t they just shotgun approach put it on every vehicle in their lineup charge it have a nice up charge for it especially something like this great some more they’re trying to go up market with this right and so right now you can only get super cruise in the ct-6 and who’s buying the CD six not many folks 90 grand and I think that if they put supercruise in a big SUV like this maybe No big selling feature for them so so what it’s got right now 3.6 liter naturally aspirated v6 behind this V inspired mesh grille here again this is the sport model gets you that grille different fascias clear tail lamp lenses and black trim surrounds around the daylight opening on the sides of the vehicle but 310 estimated horses 271 torque bolted to a 9 speed automatic transmission all wheel drive of course is available in the sport model you can get all-wheel drive with a torque sort of a active yaw control something they call it is it is it like an active differential out probably they press materials weren’t particularly specifically but available 14 speaker sound system but again no super cruise no turbo engine no hope I don’t know no I wouldn’t say that I mean like I like the way it’s designed I think it looks pretty good I do too people were complaining about that as well but I mean there’s nothing wrong with it it’s handsome its elegant I kind of like it it kind of is inspired by the Escala concept we saw a little while ago which was also very handsome concept I like to you know I think people just expect more drama especially considering how long that we had to wait for this to come out yeah I guess because people are looking at products from Lincoln now it’s just killing it that’s what we shouldn’t wander over by the Aviator just to see if oh we had a question from Larry Hickson he wants to know what is supercruise Oh what is a very good question great question it’s Cadillac sort of semi autonomous driving technology and it works oh it’s amazing it’s one of the most transformative driver assistance tech I’ve ever experienced it’s a little bit it’s very different from anything else ever offered on the market right now because Cadillac has gone out and mapped every single myoga kilometer of major interstates and highways in and you exactly and so the car so with GPS inside let you know exactly where you are what down to it because the GPS is super accurate down to which Lane you’re in basically exactly and so they’ve got super accurate GPS they’ve got the normal range of sensors you would expect in a vehicle for lane centering and everything and then they throw into the mix a driver monitor so you they know if you’re looking away or looking down at your phone so when they know you’re looking ahead and you can intervene supercruise can be enabled and it basically drives itself the car will steer it will stop it will cruise it will know you can sit there with your arms so this is very unique and that’s why risk shocked that it’s not offered in more cars yeah it’s like it’s it’s transformative yeah it should be in everything they offer as a nice option yeah it’s because I was blown away I expected it to work alright in some instances it works like 95% of the time if you go through a construction zone or something then maybe you might have to intervene amazing yeah but um we’ve got a question have we gone by Jeep yet and no we have not nothing over there and another question about suburban or Tahoe’s any news on there I don’t think so oh no we’re still waiting no but why don’t we wander by Lincoln she won’t ask you guys in the audience we’ve got the xt6 here which competes with the BMW x5 out eq7 and the upcoming Lincoln aviator which we didn’t show you a couple months back at the LA Auto Show everybody’s going crazy because its rear drive base it looks her about v6 and it’s coming with was it the hybrid power tree yes 600 pound feet of torque but first years there if you care the stretched suicide door Continental is here cause I just got a will bring you past this right quick yeah so everyone was saying that the Subaru our Subaru the Continental should have gotten the coach doors from the very very fitting when they’re from day one yeah they’re kind of doing it as a special edition it’s limited to like 80 unit it’s kind of neat I think the b-pillar is a bit of a help you need it it would never meet safety without unless your rolls-royce have they done without it yeah I guess on the dawn right yeah of course it weighs like 9,000 yes it’s literally just made of cast iron so that’s the new Continental with the suicide doors or the coach doors if you prefer that I prefer suicide though it’s just more violent but Craig Cole is all about the violence yes but here’s the Aviator turned it around so we were just asking you about the the XT six or this so which one would you rather have guys like I really want to know because I like the the idea of the aviator it’s got proportions that are dramatic it’s got the rear driving the interior is gorgeous syria’s gonna be gorgeous but I don’t love the grille I think the Cadillac has a nicer face I mean I think this looks like a little navigator which a lot of people like I’m just judging by people’s initial reactions you know when the aviator debuted people were going nuts they thought it was great we’re really excited about it but when the xt6 debuted people were just like man whatever yeah so I think people are just generally more excited about the aviator yeah but I think it’s gonna be a huge success I call the navigator sort of their transformative product that’s available today you know and I think this is gonna sort of continue that trend they’ve been asleep for so long right finally kind of laid out their place in the market smooth quiet comfortable and be a little bit lost they might be figuring that out still chasing the German yeah which they did a great job of you drive the CTSV you’re like damn that’s a good car right car but they aren’t selling any yeah and everybody wants a crossover so you know American luxury it’s a really interesting place to be right now Jose says he would rather have the aviator Rick says aviator yeah that’s the general mood I can yeah that’s the same with the press everybody almost do a person say I’m kind of defending the ct-6 I don’t think it’s that bad but everybody I’ve talked to like see a theater right bad news for Kennedy it is it is bad news for Kennedy especially because Cadillac is dealing with a lot of controversy right now surrounding you know moving their offices away from New York you know dropping a lot of their sedan yeah yeah but Rick says xt6 is generic-looking I can agree with that I mean there’s not much you can do with an SUV design to make it stand out but I creator kind of try to do something different in these the roofline is kind of swept back and drops down saying that the aviator looks like a legitimate you know Range Rover competitor yeah which is high praise absolutely so we’re just headed over to the Subaru booth right now should we swing by Mahindra and say hello to the rocks or you guys don’t know anything about Mahindra it is I believe an Indian company who makes this off-roader and it’s not street-legal no it’s off-road owned yeah and people thought that they took a little bit too much inspiration from Jeeps well is I believe the story is it’s something like a license built older Jeep model I don’t know exactly but you get a diesel engine like a five-speed leaf spring city chain yeah and you go out in the mud and have some fun in a vehicle that’s rugged and probably pretty affordable because modern jeeps are pretty expensive yeah so if you had some extra money to just blow on like an off-roader these might make a really good option I don’t know too much about it fully covered in like the bedliner material Steve Elmer is a big fan of them in older rocks or yeah trucks we have a question of the psyche fair to us is asking is supercruise better than tesla auto pilot I have not driven autopilot I don’t use autopilot but auto pilot dozen you like GPS mapping yes because supercruise only works on divided limited-access highway so you can’t just go up your driveway and enable yeah and what I’ve heard Tesla’s autopilot is great yeah and it really helps alleviate the stress from driving on the highway I’ve never used it so I can’t say yeah but um yeah Subaru that’s what we’re heading okay little sidebar at Mahindra so this wasn’t actually a really interesting debut for Detroit this is a special edition WRX STI and it’s called the S 209 and for the first time ever the u.s. not even North America this car will only be available in the US and it’s the first time an s-line model has made it over here so so far they’ve only been available in Japan so I wasn’t sure how Subaru was able to swing bringing this over but it’s kind of the STI that people have been asking for it has more power than the base STI so it has what 341 and the regular STI has 310 horsepower so that’s a pretty big job mm-hmm but with turbos you just kind of turn up the wick a little bit and you get a bunch more giddyup and so it’s wider than STI guess it’s got some fender flares difference pension and aerodynamic upgrades 101 millimeter exhaust tips while you’re back there Bret those are probably the it’s mr. Michael Harley from-from kbv yes say hello to Micah and company if they haven’t gone home yet so there’s only about 200 of these coming to the US and they’re not sure funny why about two because they’re not limited to Oh No so they’re hand-building these in Japan STI factory so they take a little bit of time yeah I don’t know I’m over it why you have a thing with Subaru where you’re like I just don’t I can’t I just don’t understand I just like okay they’re good but I don’t get the love affair with them I guess there just feel like a tractor because I’m not a Subaru nerd this car is exclusively for Subaru nerds and that’s a great thing because Subaru nerds are diehard they they love it has so much history it’s a great reminder that Subaru has a great history in rallying hillclimbs and this is what they want mm-hmm all 200 of them yes I know you’re not interested but you will like but you will like the fact that it is only available with a 6-speed manual that I can get behind right yes and bringing back the gold wheels which people are really excited about that I can get behind yeah I think that’s sort of a signature for Subarus for this model I believe the gold wheels are only available with the white paint so if you wanted a blue like a world rather blue I want blue it doesn’t come with the gold rich green Subaru I want the gold wheels and the blue paint whose something else that’s interesting is that they have like an intercooler or water spray system Oh so kind of missus yeah but you can operate it using paddle shifters because it’s a manual only which is a filler right yes yeah no that’s another fee see that’s three things I like gold wheels manual only spritzer we’re working it just didn’t feel and sound like a combine be happy like what you care about is a performance right so like this car is really heavily inspired by their Nurburgring they had a special edition Nurburgring muddle that held a record for like a very short amount of time and when it happens they I don’t even think they went public with it only after the fact when someone else got that record they were like oh we had that for a little bit that was us psyche is asking again and I I apologize I I’m sure I butchered your name but asking about a hatchback WRX any news on that probably not going to happen I think there are always rumors around that and the latest one said that Subaru might be working on another hatchback like a hot hatch we haven’t seen any indication of that yet they’ve had concepts right I mean people have been asking for it for a long long time like ever since they stopped doing the STI as a hatch people were upset about it so you know we don’t know all there is to go on right now is rumors I think they’ll do it I think they will it makes a lot of sense for them to do it all right onward and upward shall we go through GAC if you want I don’t know what yeah so this is an automaker from China and they this isn’t the first time they were at this show and they keep coming to the Detroit Auto Show because they’re hoping that eventually they’ll be sold here yet every year they keep saying they’re gonna sell them here this year and I think it keeps getting delayed especially because of you know that looming trade war with China and stuff the fun stuff must be a little bit harder for them to get settled here but I actually don’t know too much about this brand neither do us let’s just do a quick walk through use buying so we’re heading to Ford 4 dead 2 vehicles worth of notes the record I think it’s GAC and not yeah well I prefer to get GAC I believe you are correct yeah so we have a bunch of supercars coming up to our left oh and we’ve got the new GMC Sierra that’s a heavy duty model that’s not new yet but the 1500 model which did not win North American Truck of the Year and lost by quite a margin you’re on the jury Dodi well yeah what’s your take it’s what we would probably it’s what we would call a landslide the 1500 won by like almost unanimously yeah which I’m not surprised by I mean the room I think just brings a lot to the table right now like that mild hybrid system is so good it that infotainment screen is great the interior that wins me over the interior so luxurious it doesn’t look like a work truck at all yeah so we’ve got a question here any new Evo’s Evo’s from Mitsubishi Evo here a long time yeah I don’t think there’s gonna be a new one either I think that’s a beaut I don’t see my response is just like just like I don’t even notice I think they’re gonna bring back the Evo as a crossover that’s electric I wouldn’t be some people are gonna be so mad no I know what else Jose was asking about reveals we’ve got one two three more I think that we had planned that we might keep walking around a little bit more if you guys are still hanging with us but Explorer backed by the blue more exciting sure so the big news Shelby Ord gt500 sports cars which yeah here it is more than 700 horsepower they won’t tell us just yet cars slated to go and sale in the fall so they are still working on massaging a little more power out of it I’m sure interesting enough it is not available with a manual anymore it is a 7-speed DCT I’ve got a nice cutaway of right here automakers are always going for a little bit faster zero to do a little bit quicker lap time and of course modern automatics give you that compared to manual although people were super mad that the Supra didn’t come with a manual and yet everyone’s okay that this doesn’t yeah it’s called I think I see well I also have another 700 horsepower will make a little will make of couple concessions and this is of course I would say response to the Hellcat I’m sure you’d agree horse you got a there’s a couple different performance packages available including a carbon fiber pack which gets you wheels which come from one more cheese I believe they’re 20-inch wheels that you get yes r20 exposed we’ve carbon fiber which is just gorgeous and those things weigh like nuts so you pick them up yeah just pick them up with a finger which a source is great from a chassis standpoint because unsprung mass that’s mass that is not supported by the springs of a vehicle basically it’s always in motion and the springs and chance you have to sort of fight that so yeah you want to keep that as low as you possibly can more the less unsprung weight that exactly so here it is it’s a Mustang Super Mustang gets Magna ride shocks a flat plane crank supercharged Viet no it’s cross plane cross plane okay wait they do they start with the block of the gt350 so five point two liters in fact it’s right here supercharged with a two point six five liter Eaton blower right on top which they worked really hard to get is low and deep into the valley of the engines v as possible so they keep the hood line low again 700-plus horsepower they made a few changes to the block I think they added some extra ribbing to it so it’s a little bit more rigid they also increase the length of the head studs so the the threads engaged down deeper and help hold the four layer head gaskets and the heads down a little bit better because you’ve got a lot of cylinder pressure blower on top no torque figure ya know it’s gonna be in the 700s I’m sure but it will they did say that you should get to sixteen like mid three second three second she’s crazy quarter mile less than – laughs yeah that’s nuts insanely fast what else is there new oil sump much greater capacity they’ve got these little kick outs here I don’t know if you can see those Brett but that gives you a little more capacity aluminum oil pan as well help dissipate some heat and very similar exhaust header design that you get on the standard 500 which is a wonderful engine the five liter is just so smooth and it makes this like Reedy intake sound that’s really nice one of my favorite Angela and it was just on wards top ten engine in the Bullitt Mustang I believe but yeah this is lovely also cast aluminum cam covers because a lot of heat coming off of here the plastic they use on the other models it’s not quite as robust so Craig can talk about engines forever whenever there’s an engine cut out like this Craig goes nuts yes it’s so exciting you can’t like see it when it’s in the car right you see I mean yeah so I’m pork fuel injection instead of direct you know why they did that Craig because when you have a high-pressure pump for the direct system it’s more weight and it takes up more room under the hood and they wanted to maximize the intercooler size and the size of the blower so that they could keep the hood line low so push everything down so they went with portable port fuel injection instead of direct very interesting very nerdy yes I love that shall we talk about yeah the other major reveal the new Explorer so we heard you guys like crossovers yeah sadness in your voice Jody you guys want to know what do you think about a high-performance crossover me because Ford came out with an ST version of their new Explorer and some people are into it and some people are not yeah I get I mean it’s plus business you can add some parts that you’ve got in your in your parts bin right a higher output engine some bigger brakes a few other components and make a vehicle you can charge a lot more money for that’ll be faster and more fun to drive admittedly yeah the margins are really high I make more money on it yeah you don’t have to sell a lot and it’s kind of good for them the image right architecture this is the rear drive architecture right yeah Ford has not done like a new car architecture and I don’t even know how long they’ve been using Volvo leftover parts when they bought them in the nineties but this is called cd6 rear drive like you said but it should support obviously all-wheel drive as well lots of high-strength steel and some aluminum components in there overall the Explorer will have lost about 200 pounds compared to the one you can get today and that’s always a good thing to take as much mass out as you can a variety of different powertrains in the brand new Explorer or base engine is a 2.3 liter ecoboost 4-cylinder about 300 horses you can step up from there to a 3 liter twin-turbo 6 with something like 365 horse is 380 torque that’s the one that’s that’s pretty nice there’s also the ST which you mentioned about mentioned earlier 400 horses and probably 415 torque and top speed of 143 miles an hour for an Explorer that’s some good news is that they also came up with a hybrid Detroit Auto Show so this is it right here they’re saying it’ll get 500 miles to a tank mm-hmm and respectable performance with combined output of about 318 horses let’s see if we can take a look at in the interior because that one’s a lot open but you can kind of look at white run is open let’s head back there sure because they’ve done a lot of work inside to make it much nicer one of my biggest complaints about the current Explorer and the architecture it rides on there’s no front seat in the front seats there’s no room for your feet the foot wells are really tight but with the all new architecture ground up design they’ve been able to rectify those problems and give you a lot more interior room something like nearly 90 cubic feet when you fold all the seats down and actually a 4×8 sheet of plywood will fit in between the wheel wells it’s still a little bit too long it’ll stick out a few inches but it will fit with wise in the Explorer does this have a row yes absolutely I have not been in the back yet but the first and second row are as comfortable as you would expect for a family hauler cool and yeah close up to fifty six hundred pounds lots of advanced technology here Brett maybe you can swing in there and get a shot of the dashboard now and see the work they’ve done to improve the quality no jody a lot of people have been commenting on the 10.1 inch display they have it’s a portrait display right what do you what do you what’s your take on that it’s gonna be more and more common going forward I think Tesla was kind of the first Tesla and Volvo were kind of the first people to do that Ram just did it with their 1500 yeah Toyota is even doing it now in their Prius I haven’t seen actually the ten point one that is yeah because you can also get like an eight inch unit that’s much it’s more landscape oriented which is what you would expect but that looks kind of weird I don’t know I think it’ll take a little bit of getting used to I haven’t really spent too much time with a car that has not turned on no key detected Craig alright so that’s also really interesting is that this is uh like a digital display yes I think it’s like twelve point three inches which is a funny number because like every automaker that offers digital gauges it’s always like twelve point three inches why not just twelve well is like one supplier company selling the same screen or something right cuz it’s like Mercedes is twelve point three I think I would ease is twelve of the others are twelve point three this is twelve point three so I never thought about that but you’re probably right it is weird but anyway we’ve got one more booth on our scheduled okay list let’s go it’s right next door because I don’t think everyone cares about explore that much I mean they sell a ton of them so it might not be the most exciting car but it is something that people buy a lot of Oh Russ is asking cuz the new Explorers still have that annoying left foot area design on the driver’s side and the answer is no they got rid of that it was so bad I hated it so much but now there’s actually room for your feet in the new Explorer and that is reason enough to buy one I think because it drove me crazy but we’re going next door to RAM you love drugs Jodi trucks owned a 3500 yourself I actually you would love to have a truck I really want to own a truck like a big truck or a midsize truck I want like a short box truck single cab oh yeah but we’re going through a bit of FCA here or at Jeep obviously gladiator we’ve we saw this debut back in LA and it looks really the most interesting thing to come out of that show yep so in case you wanted to take another look here it is I believe the bed is five feet long made of steel got some tie-downs pretty neat one bed for the truck correct this is sort of their mid-sized offering right yeah so it’ll compete with stuff like the Colorado the Tacoma yeah yes because you get solid axles front and rear tons of suspension movement Pentastar power or a diesel I believe they’re offering the eco diesel as well but we want HD heavy heavy duty ram 2500 3500 that’s the biggest news from FCA here and this is right here the heart and soul of these new Rams it is enormous this is a 6.7 liter Cummins turbo diesel now three essentially three different engines are offered in the RAM there’s a base 6.4 liter Hemi v8 burning gasoline of course that gives you 410 horsepower 429 pound-feet of torque and then you’ve got this the 6-7 Cummins which has been completely re-engineered from the ground up but it’s offered in two potencies so the lesser of those two is 370 horsepower with 850 Jody can you imagine that’s the torque for an HD track you do and then that’s that’s just like the standard strength the high output version crosses a very important Thresh well not very important but it’s a significant exactly thousand pound feet of torque 400 horsepower so Ram is really the first to offer that four-digit torque output and I have the duty truck yes down a little bit on horsepower I think like the Ford Powerstroke and the Duramax GM still have more horsepower but when you’re towing you want torque and this Cummins is going to give it to you and a lot of people are just Cummins fanatics they love this engine it’s a great engine yeah it runs forever basically what the you can tow what 35,000 yes yes properly equipped yeah I uh put 35 pound trailer almost 8,000 pounds of hauling capacity hard to quantify but they did a lot of rework here the head has been redone exhaust valves or new rocker arms are new but the biggest thing is the block instead of being cast of traditional gray iron it’s now made of CGI which is compacted graphite iron which is much more durable and because it’s more durable you can make the casting sort of thinner and take a lot of weight out of it so they’ve managed to remove about 60 pounds from this powerplant going with the CGI block and making some of the ancillary components out of aluminum instead of cast irons lots of numbers that’s a lot of numbers yes you memorize all of that that’s a great one I got oh right yeah so they’ve got a number of RAM models are going on sale it should be like the spring I believe so pretty soon they’re offering with the 6.4 liter hemi i mentioned a few moments ago you can get that with the 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic it’s like this power like in here you can look inside this one no luckily it has pretty much the exact same engine as the regular Ram 1500 which is great because the interior is amazing that’s fantastic same cabin as the because that’s really why that the RAM one I think truck of the year more reasons than that yeah but one of the major is like that beautiful interior it’s it is really special yeah so 64 has the 8-speed if you go with the 6.7 liter Cummins turbo diesel you get a six-speed automatic transmission but there’s a six-speed with the low output in there’s an eyes and six speed for the optional high output version no pricing info yet for the RAM Oh brand new frame and chassis the couple other bits and news the frame is now 98.5 percent high-strength steel so they’re claiming it’ll be the most rigid in its class and they’ve got a display over here so rigidity and strength are a good thing engineering work that they did here and in the powertrain elsewhere in the truck they’ve reduced the overall weight of these things for the popularly you know the popular volume model by like a hundred and forty three pounds something like that so that’s a step in the right direction 3,500 s do come with leaf springs as you can see traditional leaf springs but you can also get airbags air suspension which is very good for comfort and for capability because you can do a number of things you can sort of lower the back end down when you want to get into the bed or hook the trailer up and if you do have a heavy load you can pump them up so back in the sag too much a lot of clever work there the 2500 s do come with coil springs now just like the Ram 1500 so that’s a welcome addition there that again improves comfort or refinement Fineman yeah now the coil springs can also be had with airbags in the 2500 so you get those benefits as well in both versions great do we have any more questions because that about wraps it up I think we we looked at all the cars that we Jose is asking if there are any plans for FCA to do a three row Grand Cherokee and nothing that I’ve seen they’re gonna revive the Wagoneer namely and I’m pretty sure that will be a 3-row crossover from Jeep but no official news I know we might have mentioned it in their business plan meeting in the five-year plan I don’t know if they named it I know they said they’re coming out with a new three row but and from our guesses it’ll probably be the Wagoneer there better be because that’s like a classic now everybody loves the paneling but yes that’s the best kind yes and that wraps up our live streaming on the Detroit Auto Show I think they don’t want to go back and look at like the Buick chevy trax or something you know that the buick cascada is still on sale you shall we go do know it is I’m just really surprised it was here I I was certain they discontinued it a long time ago but apparently it’s still here who knows but I guess we should wrap it up yes you all very much for watching check out
