Sinclair College’s Award Winning Automotive Technology Program

my name is Justin Morgan and I’m the chairperson of Penn Claire Community College’s automotive program here at building 20 also known as the John Moore Technology Center here and you like take a look around at our showroom of vehicles here ranging from some Honda’s and GM vehicles and some Chrysler products this is our main automotive lab we have about 16 points in this room we have for alignment racks behind the interior of our line equipment we have a partnership with hardware they allow us to basically use their brand new equipment for every year and then every year we get an exchange to demo our students are always working on cutting edge technology here in our motor lab we have about 75 to 100 different vehicles ranging from approximately 2006 to 2016 the Muslim being our newest 2015 Cummins Ram 2016 Honda Fit 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck it’s a lot of brand new vehicle that we have here in our main automotive lab we have some lab techs as well that help support our students in the lab those are basically teaching aid they hold the same credentials their ASE master certified just like our faculty are and they’re there to basically help reduce the workload of instructor which makes it a nice smaller student to instructor ratio for our labs so the lab reviewing now is two labs the one in the daytime we use this lab for engine lab so students get to learn how to disassemble and reassemble an engine to learn all the necessary measurements that they would use in everyday practical situations in the evening portion we also have this program our high performance engine program and all the equipment that you see at the perimeter of the shop is for high performance machining classes so we have everything to basically rebuild an engine from a stock configuration to a high performance application so students get to basically pull apart a transmission or engine that was used for warranty purposes or it’s turned into a warranty and they get to see how that component failed so that way when they go back to the dealership for the repair facility they know exactly what late-model stuff is coming in and how that says fail so I think they’re one of the best options for you guys in the future paid internships within the first 16 weeks the first semester here you can have a paid internship at any local repair facility whether it’s an independent shop a tire shop a GM dealership a Chrysler dealership or a Honda dealership we can get you a paid internship you’re looking to intern while you go to school and get your associates degree and they come out as a graduate basically working at that repair facility in addition to that one of the things that’s been cleared house going forward is through the 2013 bottom loaded school of the year that’s nationally ranked among all automotive schools and that says a lot for the quality of this program and how our instructors and our program rate compared to other schools across the nation
