Penn Foster’s auto repair technician course

Penn Foster’s auto repair technician course

all right so this is a review video on the Penn Foster auto repair technician online course I just finished the course yesterday and it took me about six months from beginning to end the price was around eight hundred and fifty dollars and my thoughts on the course are that it could be a lot better just by a few changes for example this textbook you’ll get this textbook around the third week of the course now I looked around online for an audio version of this book so that I could listen to it while I’m at work and I could not find it so if Penn Foster was to offer an audiobook mp3 to go along with the textbook that would be great because when you’re at work you can’t have your face buried in a book and you can’t be carrying around this heavy ass book everywhere so have you had the option to listen to it just pop in a ear piece and and listen to somebody reading the audio somebody reading the book to you I think that would be great it would help out both in learning the material and moving along moving moving faster through the course than just having to read it but when you get home after work you know when you’re tired and and you really don’t have time or energy to read so that’s one thing to add a an audio version of this book to the course write an mp3 file another thing is that they don’t have a pathway a streamlined pathway to get a SC student certified so once you finish this course and you want to get ASE students certified Penn Foster cannot help you with that or at least it couldn’t help me and other students that took the course the same time I took the course they asked the professor via email and what is it like like like chat it’s not a chat but it’s like a message board and he wasn’t able to give us a response so I checked with ASC and ASC what I was told was that the school has to set up an account and give you an ID and then you can log-in and they have to administer the the test I guess it has to be proctored and timed I think and you have to feel like 35 bucks or so to take the test and then you’ll get a student certification that’s good for two years and there’s different certifications that you can get it’s not just one it’s like four different for like specific automotive repair like if you’re gonna do just like engines or you’re gonna do transmissions or are you gonna do HVAC right whatever so they don’t offer that Penn Foster does not offer that also there’s no FaceTime with the professor I understand it’s online course but it’d be nice to have something like a Skype where we can all interact with each other and the professor to do like maybe repair projects on our own vehicle like rotating tires and you know kind of if we have any more in-depth questions that the professor could actually show us on a car you know with a cell phone like you know this is what this is and this is how this works instead of just emails and just text on a message board and addition to that they’re gonna send you with when you get this book it’ll also come with a multimeter the multimeter that they sent me was really cheap it was like a five dollar multimeter and it was already broken so that’s another thing the multimeter that you’re gonna get they might as well not even send you one when on my own so those are the things that I disliked about the course the things that I liked about it was the things that I liked about it were that it was low priced only $850 you get to do this at your own pace you will get a career diploma in the mail proving that you’ve taken an automotive repair course so those are the things that I liked about it you move at your own pace it’s not expensive and you get proof that you’ve learned the material that you’ve taken the course you’ve passed all the quizzes so in case you need that for the job market or for insurance purposes that’s the upside of going through the course you’re going to get a diploma now if you just want to learn about cars and work on your own vehicle then I would suggest not to take the course and just buy the textbook and a service manual for your for your vehicle and then just buy your tools and go on going on go to YouTube and you’ll have a lot of information about auto repair by some very experienced mechanics who upload videos on repairing cars so from a 1 to 10 I’d probably give it like a 6 now if they were to make an audio version of this book have a streamlined pathway to become ASE student certified and foster helped you with that and if you actually had some face time like Skype or something like that with the professor now then I would give it like a 10 for sure because those few changes I think would help immensely not only in and getting a job but also feeling more confident that you’re actually learning the material and it would give you more flexibility on how you learn the material whereas now like as it stands all you all you have is the book the textbook and emailing the professor but if you had the audio and he had some FaceTime and then also you knew that you were gonna get a SC student certified at the end of this at the end of the course and how that would that would definitely bring it up to attend in my opinion from from a six to ten anyway so I hope this review helped you guys and making a choice on whether or not to sign up with Penn Foster I would do it again just because I wanted the Diploma and the money’s not that bad it’s only 850 right so it’s not like UTI where it’s tens of thousands of dollars all right guys so anyway
