Northeast Automotive Technology Program

[Music] Autobody program here at Northeast is very involved gets the students into it they’re hands-on our students are in a classroom for about an hour a day and then we come out to lab and we actually hands-on work on vehicles for about four hours a day freshmen automotive students go through brakes steering suspension alignment electrical systems including batteries and alternator’s charging systems fuel systems ignition tune-up electronics and computer engine controls what we work on in the second year is transmission overhaul manual transmission and automatic and it takes a lot of actual reading and understanding what you read to work on today’s cars and engines have also gone high-tech they now have variable valve timing and we’re also working on air conditioning and it’s all run by computers we used to use a key to get codes out of a vehicle and today we use laptop computers and scan tools and high-level advanced electronics where we actually hook up to a dealership network so it’s it’s come a long ways in the last 20 years I think this school does a really good job keeping up the technology especially with the scanned tools and the alignment machines here and then in second year we have a transmission dyno and that is pretty cool because not every school has that we have to have all the equipment here so the students can learn how to use these tools when they go out into the shops that have those tools then they are more familiar with them we started a partnership with NC 3 a couple of years ago and through that partnership we have an agreement with Chrysler Corporation and now we’re doing some certification and training for Chrysler and if they achieve that level 1 certification they pretty much can be employed at any Chrysler dealership a lot higher wages than a student who does not have the certification so I think it’s going to lead to some pretty big things for the program northeast they have summer internship and they helped me find a job near my hometown with a Ford dealership and hopefully when I complete my education up here that I can go and be a mechanic there our students will have a lot of what we call stackable credentials when they’re done at Northeast they’ll obviously have their degree but they’ll also have a lot of certifications along the way with
