Motor repareren, Letland en Estland, Motorreis#3

I’m traveled on for a couple of countries I’m a few months older, a few kilo’s lighter, A few less hairs on my head. And I made no videos for a while The past two videos I made while waiting for parts in Latvia. But from then everything went well So no videos, no time The one thing that did not go well is that my laptop broke. Which also made it more difficult And I had less motivation Maybe it is stubbornness, that if it feels like a duty I don’t want to do it anymore. It is probably because I am from Friesland But enough about this, back to the motorcycle breakdown in Latvia. Would it be alright? Exiting! It is now the 15th of June 2017 Anno Domini And… 16 days ago I got my mechanical failure. Okay, what happend? I have been in a Hostel for 4 days, nearby my motorcycle And for 4 days I consulted the workshop and the ANWB roadside assistance about what to do. And this resulted in… That they could not offer anything I wanted. The local workshop refused to repair. The ANWB said that they could transport it to the Netherlands, But suddenly they said this would take 20 days instead of 10. I had the feeling they did not want to transport it, because it cost a lot of money. I could also go to the BMW workshop in Riga… Then it will be fixed with new parts And this wil cost about 1500 to 2500 euro.to fix it. So! I decided to attempt to repair the bike myself. I first took the bike apart. Ordered new and second hand parts I had to wait 8 days for these They had to come from different countries. Now it is all on hand and I will attempt to assemble it all. The local workshop was nice enough to give me a spot to work. See if it will work out… Here a lesson car and bike mechanics This is a clutch This axel is connected to the engine Normally this whole thing spins very vast And this axel is connected to the gear box and the wheels So now they can turn freely, but normally if it clutch is not pushed in, then there are two disks I don’t know if you can see it… Two disks… Whom clamp the spinning disk in the middle. So normally these two disks lock the middle disk which means that if the engine is running the wheels also turn. If you want to change gears you have to decouple the disks. You push the clutch pedal or lever… Then a pin presses in here, And this pushes the plates free from each-other Like they are now So what happend to me? My middle clutch disk was worn out. Because of which the clutch disk where sliding Which resulted in the heating of the outer disks. Look, this is the inner disk You can see it is worn. So this went sliding on the other two… and it became so hot that it exploded Here a piece of the old disk And it exploded, Resulting in a hole in the housing. I am lucky I don’t have a hole in my foot. That’s nice. Now you may have learned something It’s now the 17th And after 3 tinker afternoons my bike is back together again. So I am very happy that it succeeded. Possibly for 2000 euro’s less than the BMW workshop in Riga. It costed about 250 euro’s on parts And I finished in about half the time the local bike shop expected. I did it in about 14 days. Which is still a long time But I am satisfied, here he is. I am still in Liepaja Fun to mention… After a few days in a hotel I met two people in the supermarket. Emils and his mom Teika I got talking to them They both spoke English well. And they were so hospitable to let me stay in a vacant room in their apartment. Thank you for that! There are many bunkers here With some happy swastikas to brighten things up. There are corridors, you can walk through them. You can not see it on camera, but it is descending here. these are Ideal shoes… they are watertight This is a dead end Lots of amber on the beach Here a little piece Okay, enough about Liepaja, time to travel on. Along the East Sea. Probably Baltic Sea is a better name It doesn’t matter Along a big tub of salt water and then I hope to get to Russia I am now on the tip of Latvia, where the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Riga unite. And you can sea that the waves collide. Hidden bike. Check! Empty beach. Check! Sunset. Check! I just left my tent open And many small stinging bugs. Riga looks a bit like a Dutch Or a German city Or in a shopping mall, like any other city in a western country. I wonder why shopping malls are so similar everywhere. But of course there are also nice streets and buildings. I also met nice people in Riga. The footage of this you see now… It is the day before the midsummer celebration According to locals the most important celebration in Latvia. There where lots of things organized in Riga. But locals said to me… The real midsummer celebration is in the rural areas, spread out through the country. So I decided to leave Riga and continue my route, And to have a look at anywhere I come across celebration. But this is easier said then done I can’t find anything. Having a look in a village, but it looks deserted. I saw some people in their back yard around a camp fire… But I don’t want to intrude. That was my reportage of the biggest celebration in Latvia. Quite the anti climax ofcourse First look for a tent spot Found a tent spot. When the tent is set up it has gotten light again. Annoying, lots of flies Because of my not eternally valid Russia visa I drive quickly through Estonia The odometer is almost at 50K Or… No… Not. It is stuck right before 50K, also a bit of anti climax And the daily odometer is also stuck And because I check with this when I have to refuel, i have to guess this from now on. Arriving at the border of Estonia and Russia it looks rather quiet. I ask if the border is open today This is the case But I have to take a number for my turn. Somewhere else in Estonia, a few kilometer from here. All very logical But, I was allowed to enter Russia, the largest country in the world. It is a little exiting.
