Motor oil | NAPA Shopping Know How

I’m Chris Robinson
and I know how to shop
at NAPA Auto Parts. Today, I’m going to show you
how to shop for engine oil. ♪ music ♪ Back in the day when my dad
drove around in his 1972
Oldsmobile Cutlass, he only had two choices
of oil to use: winter or summer. Buying oil nowadays can be
horribly intimidating. That’s not the case. There are three things
you can do. One, check your owner’s manual: it’s going to tell you exactly
the kind of oil you need. Two, go to NAPACANADA.COM. Put your make, model
and year of your vehicle and it’s going to tell you
what kind of oil to use or, come down to NAPA Auto Parts
and talk to your parts adviser. They’re going to get you the
right oil for your vehicle. So, let’s take for example
what I drive. I drive a 2014 Kia Sorento
and it does require that I use
a 5W-20 fully synthetic, which is this right here. While I’m not going to
give you a chemistry class
right now, what I am going to tell
you is that these numbers
actually mean something. The 5W is the viscosity index
at cold operating temperatures, while the 20 is your regular
operating temperature
of your vehicle. Now, here’s the thing: if you drive a turbo, chances are the oil you’re
going to put in is going to run at a lot higher
temperature than what I run. And here’s a good question
you probably want to ask me: what’s the difference between
synthetic and regular oil? Well, regular oil obviously
is going to be cheaper, but the biggest
difference of all is that synthetic oil won’t
break down nearly as fast, and living in Canada,
it’s fantastic for cold starts. But don’t forget, there’s one
other thing you need. If you’re going to go
with a synthetic oil change, don’t forget to get
your NAPA Gold filter
to go along with it. All right, let’s quell a rumour
right now: NAPA Auto Parts doesn’t
have oil for european cars
and japanese imports. That’s not true. BAM! Oil for japanese cars. BAM! Oil for your european car. BAM! Oil for your
european diesel car. BAM! And for you old school
hot rod guys, we have hot rod oil
with a high zinc content. And if you guys do your own
oil changes at home, we carry our complete
line in 5 L containers. Now you know how to shop
for oil at NAPA Auto Parts.
