Lauren: A Day in the Life of a Vehicle Technician Apprentice

My name’s Lauren Cyster. I’m an apprentice
with BT Fleet in Leicester and I’m an apprentice
vehicle technician.
I started on the 30th of August, so 2 months
now. The team have just been brilliant. They’ve,
sort of, welcomed me in and treated me like
another member of the team.
I’ve worked on all sorts of things so far.
On my first day I was given a blown engine
and told to take it apart and put it all back
together again, so that was a bit of a baptism
of fire but an absolutely brilliant learning
experience. And then I help on vans, trucks,
cars. A bit of all sorts really.
It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. Everyone
who asks me about my job I’ve recommend that
they go onto the website and have a look at
the opportunities available, because I think
it’s so worth doing.
The interview process, the assessment, the
whole recruitment process was completely different
to anything I’ve done before. For a, sort
of, mature student, as it were or a mature
apprentice, for people like me it was absolutely
fantastic, because it really gave me the opportunity
to show what I’d learnt from all the other
jobs I’d done.
I just tell everyone to get on the website
and have a look and apply. Cause I don’t think
I will ever look back, to be honest.
