Jump Start a Car with AA Batteries

Jump Start a Car with AA Batteries

Hi, in half an hour. I have this presentation at work sharing my ideas and findings. That’s gonna blow everyone’s minds.
They’re gonna look past my unibrow and see me for the genius I am. I’ll finally get the recognition I deserve
Let’s do this!
The car battery is dead. Well I have a few options to fix the problem. I can take the transit to work.
[the] Transit… riding with peasants, or even worse I can wait for somebody to show up and give me a battery boost for a jumpstart
Excuse me sir, can you spare some charge? Sir, have a good day, sir?
Excuse me ma’am?
Or I can get smart. Can I find something at home that can help me do a jump start? What everyone has a few of
at home or these aa batteries. What even an idiot knows that you can’t jumpstart a car with aa batteries, but I’m gonna do it
Well, the idiot is right you may need a thousand aa batteries, ten in series and hundred of those in parallel to create the current
an engine crank needs. What I calculated that 10 to 12 aa batteries in series should have enough charge for an engine crank
Just that their internal resistance is too large for the over 100 amp current a crank needs
But, if I pour these tiny buckets of charge into the car battery the car battery should be charged enough for at least one
successful crank. You can solder the batteries together with wire. Just don’t heat them too much or they’ll degrade
Let’s charge the car batteries. Now I have to wait a—
Remember to charge the battery with another, you have to connect the positive to positive and negative to negative otherwise, you will short the battery
now I have a new set of batteries and a 1 ohm series resistor so I can measure the current through the battery.
The voltage of the Car battery right now at no load is
11.7 [volts] and the
voltage of my AA Batteries is
19.4. Let’s connect them up
Now the current through the batteries is 2.2 amps.
Ten minutes passed and the final current is 1.3 amps to the battery.
Now let’s disconnect the battery and see if I can start the car
Keep the tip guys
Yes! Yes! Yes! I did it! Yes! Yes! Yes!
“Medhi, where are you?”
“I just started my car.”
“Oh great. you’re fired, man.”

  1. good that his car happened to not start
otherwise he would have left his camera and tripod in the garage
    what an idiot

  2. Why tf is the next video in my recommendations β€œHow to Properly Jump Start a Car” by ChrisFix?

  3. why did the current go down during the TEN MINUTES ?? shouldn't the current be steady at 2.2 amps?.. I can see that the CURVE of the graph was an Exponential Decay curve.. but what caused the current value to decrease over time???… thanks

  4. was able to get my car from 8V to 10V not sure if my lithium ion batteries are depleted or whether the car has a dead cell

  5. I keep a 20v drill batteries and two short wires to connect to my battery as my jump start kit. It works awesome. The wires get very hot and you wanna be quick about it but it works. And FYI. I’m driving a 1977 Chevy dually equipped with a 950 cranking amp battery.

  6. i try to always have spare everything
    for almost any problem
too bad i dont have as much spare luck and spare live to brave myself to do any of this

  7. I would thumbs up but that will have to wait until after the ER trip from when you threw sparking and smoking batteries at my eyeballs . 1:45, good demonstration

  8. He has that middle eastern terrorist looks ,and obviously he is high.Do a video showing how to start a car with a camels tail.

  9. Nice video!!! While you have shown it is possible to charge with regular alkaline AA batteries, I always wondered if it was possible to swap a lead acid battery in a car with an equivalent Li-Ion battery pack (complete with electronic battery control and necessary circuitry between the alternator and the battery control module). Maybe that could be an idea for another video, with pros and cons for such a setup.

  10. The bonet of the car next to him could be easily opened without a key and used to jumpstart the engine of his car in a lot less time . What shit people do for youthoob money .

  11. They sell a supercapacitor jump starter pack for 120. As long as your alternator and starter are good, and your car battery has at least a little charge left, it works perfectly. Probably the best jumpstarter pack I have ever owned.

  12. Pay a homeless to push the car, engage 2nd shift and take out the foot of clutch pedal. From my experience, Lead acid batteries start to boil at 15v. But if it is a battery to change and the AA works, OK.

  13. Seeing as it normally takes an instant with another car, but with this 10 minutes, this seems more like a crawl start than a jump start

  14. Oh man, low voltage starter solenoid click….. continues to draw battery even closer to death haha, and then you charged the battery with AAs…. seeing it and thinking about it it makes sense but wow.
    Another great Electroboom video.
    Thank you.

  15. At first all this this seemed implausible, but then I did a quick math. Based on the graph he charged a total of 15 amp-minutes, or 0.25 Ah of capacity into the car battery. This seems very little. But if the car starts for 2 seconds at about 400 A, that means it draws 800 amp-seconds, or only 0.22 Ah of capacity from the car battery. So it was enough.
This is a very simplified view of the situation and I am curious of what an expert would say.

  16. YES I have 10+ AA batteries laying around in my house
YES I have a battery operated soldering gun in my house
YES I have solder in my house

YES I will solder then all together and attach them to my battery and wait 10 minutes and hope that I cranks my engine because my battery has been FULLY depleted because I left my lights ON all night ..

Yes this will only work if your battery is slightly dead and not enough juice to turn over the engine, if your battery has been fully depleted due to overnight lights left on for 10+ hrs… This trick will NOT WORK …

  17. Looks like he is asking an homeless guy, "can you please crank my car", the homeless guy responds "I don't own a car" !!!!

  19. All along this video I was scared about what could happen to the beautiful car next to yours

  20. Awesome video dude.
I have a question/idea, would that 11 volts from the dead battery connected to a dc dimmer (input 5-35v and output of 12-40v) when the knob turned up to the middle it will give you about 20v can be used to jump start the car? remember the battery will supply the input and it will take the output. (dimmer in question is XY-ZT)

  21. The 11.74 volts your battery displayed would be enough too start the small 4cyl engine in your car. That's of course dependant on the size of the motor it is to how much it would take to turn it. Most small cars like yours and yours is really small can start on 11.74 volts.

  22. I somehow knew that converting my VW Polo's motor into a steam engine was probably a bit of an over-reaction to a flat battery!
