Job Talks – Automotive Service Technician – Seaton Explains Why it’s More Than Just Cars

my first name is Seton and I’m an automotive service technician I chose to be an automotive service technician because I enjoy working my hands problem solving learning new things diagnosing issues everything along that line challenging your mind I look forward to going to work every day because I’m not I don’t necessarily know what I’ll be doing that day but I know it’ll be fixing repairing something diagnosing issues that I haven’t seen before because it’s always it’s a constantly evolving trade there’s always new things coming out on cars new problems they’re having and it’s very keeps you on your toes as far as education goes and learning new things so every day I I kind of do a little bit everything in the shop I’m in saw all three customers even when they come in the morning for their appointments they’ll take down concerns that they have any additional requests a lot of times that customer that I talked to he’ll bring their car in and address their concerns whether it’s a diagnostic or maybe a funny noise I’ll dress the concerns I’ll you know make up an estimate to say okay this is the problem that you’re experiencing this is what you need to replace to fix the problem this is what’s gonna cost so it’s a little bit of everything involved in my job it’s not just fixing cars it’s a little bit of customer relation accounting to build things like that so a lot of misconceptions I guess they have is one is you’re always gonna get your hands dirty which yes you do but that’s where they make gloves nice but there’s also a lot to being an automotive service technician where you don’t have to get your hands dirty there’s a lot of electrical Diagnostics where you can you know you have a oscilloscope hooked up for multimeters you’re doing a lot of looking at a screen and testing different sensors we’re not necessarily getting you know how your hands greasy or dirty so it’s not it’s not always a dirty trade if you’re trying to get into the skilled trades the automotive service technician I would say rated in high school I guess when they start the automotive service kind of program so I’d say definitely getting it up because that’s where I started I win and do that and I actually competed skills in high school level and then it kind of progressed from there I like like fixing cars and I got into oh yeah and I did my apprenticeship and went on to trade school where I also joined the skills and I progressed through I went through did the skills at the provincial level in the national level and I’m here back volunteering as a judge [Music] you
