I got SCAMMED buying a DEALER car at the Salvage Auto Auction

hey guys Sam here and I just got done shooting a video doing some work on the money picture then I realized you guys don’t really know a whole lot about the money pajetta so let me give you the quick story how I ended up buying it and really how a bunch of damage was concealed and why you should go back watch my other video on how to buy cars at the salvage auctions well how can discover this sort of stuff before it happens to you this is a good learning lesson it could have been much worse and hopefully by the end of this project we’re gonna have a good working car so anyway here’s one of the first photos I saw the money pajetta I’m going to go through the rest of them they pretty much look like any car you see at the salvage auction here’s a really good angle uh this is probably what got me to bid and mind you I’ve been twenty five hundred dollars I believe I thought it was pretty inexpensive there was a buy it now for four thousand I pulled a history report and it just had been released from the insurance company like a few days before was that auction so I thought it was being sold by an insurance company turns out it wasn’t but look at this angle is really good here’s the engine I always like to see a little bit of dirt on the engine I don’t like to see people cleaning things up because then it usually means somebody’s hiding something but notice in this picture they cut off the passenger side and the driver’s side for that matter apron now we go back to the good angle this is perfect so nothing’s gonna going to be concerning really in this corner but however the aprons are the pieces here that run along the sides of the car they hold defenders in place so here this is why we need to be leery of not a a wire photo being shown so this is the picture with the majority to damage on the car you look at it and it looks like okay I need to replace the door the hood the bumper and knows what the fenders looks like when it gets here maybe to grow it looks fairly simple from the photo this car as far as the body work one was far from simple first thing I want you to notice is how these chunks of paint missing on the hood chunks of paint just don’t go missing on the hood basically what happened is this hood folded in as I’ll show you very shortly and they pulled it out as best they can they pulled it flat enough but they’re not tricking anybody and saying hey you’re gonna be able to reuse this hood however it’s just something good to be able to notice now look at this door it’s pretty trash but look at this fender it almost looks perfect and notice the original wheels missing which means this corner was completely destroyed even the wheel was likely destroyed in the accident didn’t come with the car so I’m assuming it was left there on the side of the road or somebody picked it up anyway it’s it’s gone this whole entire suspension was really damaged in this corner so how come this fender looks so big that should throw out a red flag right there somebody obviously doctored up the car before I got it so anyway let’s go through the rest the photos the car twenty three thousand three ninety nine miles if you look at the back seat it looks pretty clean look at that angle again they’re emphasizing how good that angle is and just the driver side airbag which indeed it was just the driver side airbag now one interesting thing to note here this car got hit on the passenger side shehas glove box is open a little bit it actually popped the glove box open and out so that had to be repaired it was actually fairly simple as far as I can tell I didn’t damage a lot of the wires as you’ll see really any behind the firewall on the car that you’ll see in my video of me repairing the Jetta if you haven’t seen it already but yeah look they’re emphasizing that side of the car again you know typically something’s up really defender is really the dead giveaway that somebody doctored this car no I’ve been $2,500 the car only went for 1900 or 2010 realizes but it doesn’t work like a bay where you can bid 2,500 and the bids only go up in increments of 100 that’s how the auction process does go on covert however they released my hi big to the seller at the end the seller came back and wanted like 38 or 36 hundred dollars or something like that I declined I didn’t even really respond and about a day later I got a much same fine we’ll take 2500 you win and once you win you’re committed to buy you can pay a cancelation fee of like five hundred dollars or you can buy the car like I said I was only in at twenty five hundred plus all the applicable fees so I thought I’d take a shot at it now in the other video I show you how to do the Google trick I did the Google trick obviously before even bidding on this car nothing showed up so I thought this was a damage and I end up doing a whole lot more research after I got the car which is too late at that point but I did dig up this photo this is the original photo from the insurance company or it’s from the auction the first auction this car was sold at this is from when it was for sale by the insurance company I mean take a look at that you can see the whole apron is destroyed the fenders destroyed everything in this corner looks a whole lot worse the only really redeeming quality is this front frame rail when these frame rails twist in bed they are you can repair them and replace them but they caused this so much more damage you’ll likely use the car for parts in this case I would have probably preferred using the car for parts and so the ball a little headaches I’ve had with it but again we started to rebuild we’re going to finish it so let me show you what the car looked like when my body shop got it and they took the fender off now look at this this is real deal stuff that everybody is worrying about this is the frame being crunching this is the door here and here is the passenger side apron and then connecting it out of the a-pillars and the door pillar here so that’s one photo and here’s a picture of it look like spaghetti I mean there was no other way to put it look at this the fact that they even brought it back into place and mounted a strut up into it was amazing in the car no joke did run and drive when I got it it didn’t run and drive very well and I didn’t take it above maybe two or three miles an hour just getting it down the road into the body shop but that’s it this car was really pretty damaged when I got it so the last thing I want to show you guys is this photo here this is the piece I purchased from a junkyard from a donor card this was a another Jetta GLI actually thinking it was an Edition 30 GLI to which you know same frame I could have got one from a regular Jetta would’ve been the same and they actually cut this is the doorsill here here’s your a pillar here is the front frame rail with the motor mount still on it and into where then the windshield wiper Cowell’s would sit your windshields right here so this is the front corner of a donor car here’s another angle of it again this is a floor there are the floorboards right here there’s a brand new fender in here that I ordered for it too but yeah this apron really is the piece that we needed we needed some of this from the door and basically you cut the old piece out of the car is clean and you can you well you know you do measurements and you weld this in place so that’s the story on the money cajeta I kind of got scammed at the auction however it could have been much worse and I only paid $2,500 for the car which the parts alone would have been worth more than that I can take that Avenue we’re going to try and fix this car under percent and as you can see it’s come a long way since these photos so if you enjoyed this story on the money pajetta I encourage you to subscribe to the channel and like this video below also please leave a comment ask any questions you have about this car any cars that you see it to salvage auction or any car in general I’d be happy to answer for you there’ll be more content coming soon and new builds as well so stay tuned thanks for watching
