How to replace front suspension arm / front control arm on BMW 330i 3 (E92) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]


Required tools:
Wire brush
WD-40 spray
Brake cleaner
Copper grease
Combination spanner #18
Drive socket # 21
Wheel impact socket #17
Torque wrench
Tap wrench
Hydraulic transmission jack
Wheel chock
1. Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
2. Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Use wheel impact socket #17.
AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
3. Clean all joints of the arm.
Use a wire brush.
Use WD-40 spray.
AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
4. Unscrew the arm fastening to the beam.
Use a combination spanner #18 (2 pieces).
5. Prop up the steering knuckle.
Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
6. Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle.
Use a drive socket #21.
Use a tap wrench.
7. Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
AUTODOC recommends:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
8. Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle.
9. Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle.
Use a drive socket #21.
10. Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
11. Remove the fastening bolt.
12. Remove the arm.
13. Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm.
Use a wire brush.
Use WD-40 spray.
14. Install a new arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.
Do not damage the ball joint cover.
15. Install the fastening bolt.
16. Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle.
17. Screw the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
18. Use a drive socket #21.
19. Treat the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
Use copper grease.
20. Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
21. Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
22. Prop up the steering knuckle.
Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
23. Tighten the arm fastening to the beam.
Use a combination spanner #18 (2 pieces).
Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 85 nm torque.
24. Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
AUTODOC recommends:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
25. Tighten the ball joint fastener.
Use a drive socket #21.
Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 65 nm torque.
26. Treat all joints of the arm.
Use copper grease.
27. Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim.
Use copper grease.
28. Clean the brake disk surface.
Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
29. Screw in the wheel bolts.
Use wheel impact socket #17.
AUTODOC recommends:
“To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
30. Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts.
Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 120 nm torque.
