How To Repair Rust On A Car Without Welding With Fiberglass/Box Chevy Caprice Vinyl Top Rust Repair

[Music] [Music] [Music] 1987 Caprice box it is in the booth as you can see on this video here we’re gonna go ahead and tackle this rust that we found up under the LS quarter top sealer in my previous video the rust here and one quoted on the price that I gave them for painting the car but I’m not gonna leave it like that I’m a repair to my best ability with this budget so we’re gonna go ahead and use fiberglass in the pattern so stay tuned McGarrett things set up we’re gonna cut you back up I got the LS quarter top removed so we can see what we working with the reason why this rusted out because from the factory if York I had a vinyl top on it they didn’t ever finish the roof out only thing they did is just sit the roof on and willed it these spots here I put some seen himself in it it wasn’t never finished out so what when it rain the water just run through here and get up on the seam sealer and just sit and that’s why all this is rested out so what we gonna have to do and see how for the rest go back so I’m gonna go ahead and take this cell out back here the rear glass I’m have to remove it so sit tight I’m getting this back rear glass out you have to get to the screws and they cover the screws up with same Scylla or glue I’m not sure what it is but the bottom ones you can get to them either but these side ones and top marks you’re gonna have to scrape the glue off from the top in order to get to the screw but let me show you something this side what I was telling you about why I’d be resting out you can see where this water right here see where it’s wet just sitting up enough that comes from outside it was sitting outside in the rain and I just poured it in here but you can see where that water just sitting up this way I just rushed out it come down this channel here it’s just sit here if they would have finished the roof out you know like they do on the the box if it’s they don’t have stalks on them it wouldn’t happen they should have just finished the roof out I got the rear glass removed I’m gonna go ahead and vacuum this up clean it up I got some soap and water that make sure it ain’t getting clean so I can see what I’m working with then I’m gonna go ahead and mash this rear opening up so all the sand and dust won’t get on the inside the next step is to see how for this Russ go back so we gonna sand out this but we’re gonna do it with this grinder got a porter-cable ground the wood up sister grit flap this attached to it so we’re gonna go ahead and sand and see how for this Russ go back I got it cleaned up with the sister grit flap this as you can see most of it is just really surface rust I’m gonna have to give my drill and cleaning it out up in there where it’s pitted it but most of the surface rust I’m gonna go ahead and cut this part here out so I can get on up inside of here what I’m gonna do I’m gonna use this cutoff wheel and just cut it along here so I can clean it up a little better all right I got that it’s enough so I can get up in here and clean this middle pretty good with my sandpaper get this surface rust up let me finish cleaning all this up then the makutsi back on [Music] the next step is to get everywhere where the sound of them get we’re gonna have to get this surface rust up and the best way to do it it’s on white vinegar we’re gonna use this on a maroon scotch-brite you can use a rag or whatever you would like a brillo pad but I’m gonna use this maroon and scotch brite I’m gonna put some on it and I’m gonna get out of this other surface rust up come and clean I’m gonna take you over here to this side this side hit one that’s bad as that side over there once you get everything cleaned up a rust-free our next step is to get some primer I got 15 and from there I’m just gonna fry them up in here because this part here it’s not gonna get finished it’s gonna be here put about two coats of primer on that I’m gonna let this coat is dry then I’ll come back and hit another the primer done dry it up next step is creating the backing fire fiberglass mat so we’re gonna use this here some spray can phone we’re gonna take this and shoot some up in here and once they’re dry we’re gonna shave it down and shape it up again we’re gonna fiberglass once the spray phone’s right you want to get you a knife to trim it off it’s pretty simple [Music] just there something once your spray phone dry you want to get you some fiberglass resin fiberglass mat a chip brush something stirring with mix it up song then you’re gonna go ahead and let your fiberglass mat over this you want to go ahead and let this right then half the drive we’re gonna put another layer of fiberglass mat over this [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] fiberglass mat good and dry what we’re gonna do now we’re gonna trim out around here on each side we’re just going to use a box cutter take our blade and just trim it out then we’re gonna take the da eighty grit sandpaper we’re gonna knock all this down be ready for the next step [Music] they’re dying down with the DEA I went back over it with the hand sign but we ate a grit sandpaper our next step is getting some Short Strand fiberglass filler we’re gonna mix some of this up and cover all our imperfections [Music] it’s starting to take for them now I’ve knocked this down I just repeated the process as I did with the fiberglass mat knocked it down with the DA and then I came back with a straight sander next step is applying some body filler we’re gonna mix that up we’re gonna knock that down then we should be ready for some primer after that [Music] I’m just finishing up cleaning up my spray gun I just like to make shoes and good working condition before I start shooting the primer or paint but I’m gonna be shooting this year cam it mixes photo 1 to win for color one part activator 1 apart reducer number B Shima diverges setage it 1000 BRP let me show you what I got going on I’m gonna go ahead and shoot just had for the roof also so I had one on the sander that – how much you got all the way down the hill when I’m gonna suck this off i’ma shoot back here – I cleaned that up got that glue off same way with this side let me mix up this primer then we’re going to be spraying some to cake [Music] [Music] you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] we [Music]
