How To Make A Pen/Pencil Out Of Recycling Automotive Paint

all right today I’m going to make a pencil out of automotive paint Troy sent me a link a while back somebody on one of the pin forms had made made a pin out of powder coating I thought was a cool idea so I made made one out of the paint paint chips I have and I put some pictures up on Facebook and everybody seemed to seem to love it so I thought I’d turn one and show you but something else I my boy I think it’s Car and Driver I can’t remember but he was flipping through it the other day and I just happened to catch my eye and that I saw that on the page it’s automotive paint and they made cuff links out of it and I just thought it was cool kid that paint little description setting the paint came out came out of old automotive factory so I thought it was a neat idea and they were 175 bucks in case they break wants a set of them but and if you want want to find some of it people sell it on eBay – but I also wanted to thank Beckham from Kosovo he sent me this piece of wood and I looked it up online and can’t can’t pronounce the name sorry but it’s a lot like like cedar it’s got a lot of oils and stuff so I will make a couple of boxes or something out of that thank you very much but let me start it all right I put some pictures up of a paint chip pan I made made on Facebook and everybody seemed to love it so I’m going to make a mechanical pencil today I have a couple of pieces here just drill them out I’ll put the inserts in and we’ll put it on here and see if we can’t get it to come out all right hey have the the tubes all glued in I’m all set up here I’m going to turn the lace speed up to 4000 on this I want to try and eliminate catching the little ridges and I also hit them with the sander to try and try and smooth them out a little bit more but we’ll see if we can’t get it to what cut down without chipping and I’m just going to use a spindle gouge on ah and see it pulled away right popped up right there but I think we’ll be alright with that don’t let ray I think I might trying to leave that in the great collar um and see if I’m going to with Sandeen and he did smooth down a little bit there but with Sandy News will take kick a lot of that off and you okay I don’t want a chance to giggle ahh oops I was getting close to being done and I can definitely send the rest of it so you can see it was the same piece so that part right there will match up with that a little bit of red there and a little bit more there so let’s sand it and also for finish I got the ultra gloss it’s it’s used for trillings because I tried on the last pin I tried to put CA glue on it and it like melted the paint so I had to sand that all off on the one I put the pictures up but I won’t I’m just going to use that ultra cos because that’s what I ended up doing on the other one and I’m just going to sand it dry with with regular sandpaper for the first couple of grits and then i’ma switch to automotive and wet sanded turn the low-speed way back down and I’m just using 100-grit trying to you know kind of shape it a little you know smooth it out out with this because I don’t know it’s not like wood so it’s not it doesn’t cut it’s not a nice clean cut and kind of see see some of the ridges there and stuff so just kind of giving it a smooth shape okay alright and I just switched to 220 here and I’m wet right I’m not really set up for doing him what’s in the cooler I think maybe some of the asset of that mesh ad would really really get it get it shining off the other one things up pretty good all right finishing 600 here clean it off water dust out of it all right I’m going to let it dry really good and then I will put on clear coat all right I just put a small dot in a Polish on not sure you know nothing Sam there it says it’s for I’m not sure how it seems like it taking a little bit of color off twos I guess clear in our automotive clear coat I put a nice shine all right there we go now I’m going to just let it dry for a while and then we’ll put the pin together all right I’m going to assemble it and I don’t have a pin press or anything so I’m just just going to do it do it this way I did the other one and it came out alright so I’m just going to use my tail stock of the little press all right there we go show off that side of it and then we need to put the little sleeve here in and it doesn’t go in I need to make a bigger little spacer actually I can just get it in by hand all right that worked out all right now we need to press the little little piece in the cap for the tail and then when this slides in it walks locks that in yeah so really I’ve left this together like that and then we need to press these all together so I need to let’s see if I can just push it together I want I want them to light up though colors all line out there we go all right and then here let me let me show you – all right there we go have it all together and then you pencil but just some beautiful stuff to work with and here’s that the pin I mean a couple weeks ago and has a lot more crazy designs in it I’ll have to dig through and see if I can’t find some more to get some some some different stuff like that but this kind of want to show you – I think my most most asked question other than you know what’s in the can is for sanding is can I make it set a chess pieces out of this and this is the bout I just can’t I don’t have enough big pieces to do it but this was a pretty big piece we sanded up today and you can see get that camera they’re just just incredible the ripples what they do to the design so I’ll put some pictures at this little piece up here too but I made a box a while back and used a piece like this for the for the finial just glued it on that on the top but just gorgeous stuff to play around with all right there we go and I’ll put some detail pictures rolous all this stuff up at the very end and again thank you back them for the wood and really appreciate it and I want to say thank you to everybody uploading pictures to the website and sharing with everybody and I’m getting really close and I’ll do another slide show of of everybody’s work and I really appreciate it but thanks for watching and don’t forget to subscribe
