How to Bond ABS Plastic Together | How to Repair ABS Plastic Easy | Automotive Repair Techniques

hey guys is John from the lucky needle and today I wanted to show you guys my trick on how I bond ABS together this is a really easy trick you don’t need anything expensive no special glue nothing you can see how well this holds together I have these two panels that I did here earlier and you can use this on lots of things that are made out of ABS you know maybe something’s broken inside your car and you need to bond it back together or maybe you have two panels that you just need to join so you can make them longer whatever it is stick around and I’m going to show you how I do this [Music] all right so the one thing that you’re going to need to pick up at the hardware store to be able to bond ABS plastic like this is you’re going to need to get a can of this M ek it’s a methyl ethyl ketone I’m not exactly sure what it is but I know you can get it at every hardware store and it works really good for bonding ABS plastic and the good thing about this is this can only cost about 8 bucks something like that so it’s really cheap and you’re not you’re barely going to use any of this so if you wanted to get a smaller can you’d be fine doing that as well the other thing you’re just going to need a cheap paintbrush and something to pour the m EK into obviously you don’t want it to be made out of ABS plastic because it’s going to melt the melt a cup so let’s get started so today what I’m going to do just to demonstrate this is I’m just going to bond these two pieces together with a piece over top just like this to hold it together so you can’t really just glue the two ABS pieces together back you know a butt like this but what you can do what works really well is is you can use another piece over the backside which is going to hold these together really nice and good so the first thing I’m going to do is pour some of this Mak into the cup here and you really don’t need very much so now what I’m going to do is I’m just going to wet all of these pieces with the paintbrush with the M ek and then after that what we’re going to do is stick them together just like that and they’re going to bond to each other really really tightly all right now I’m just going to put these two pieces together right here I’m going to put that one right over top and I’m going to press down to really make these two pieces make contact and then I’m just going to leave it you’re going to want to let this sit for about 10 minutes or so well it dries 10 20 minutes you know you want to be safe you don’t want to do it too early and then have it not stick but if you want to put something heavy on here to hold this together that’s even better since we’re just doing a demonstration here I’m just going to let that sit and I’m going to show you the results here in about 20 minutes all right so we let this dry for about 20 minutes here and now you can see how strong this is I mean it’s all bonded together and it’s really it’s not going to break this is going to hold really well for you so I hope you guys liked this kiss trick and hope it will help you you know fix some things in the future [Music] you you
