my name is Ralph claig I’m passive Sims manager at Gordon Mary design Gordon Larry design is a new design company we were an IP company so what that means is that we are we develop our own IP and then we license it out to people so we’re not intending to be manufacturers we’re just intending to license IP that we developed through the course of projects the main area of IP that we’re trying to license at the moment is the ice dream manufacturing process it’s an innovative approach to vehicle chassis manufacture takes out weight and cost and significantly investment cost I think the future of the automotive industry will see new manufacturing processes coming in the reason for this is that the the cost associated with setting up stamped steel based manufacturing centers is very high it restricts the type of industry or the type of investor that can get into the automotive industry to those that are already there pretty much so I think we’ll see an emergence of new low energy low cost manufacturing techniques at the moment vehicles are based around stamped steel panels which are welded together and then and then cosmetic panels are put on top that’s it’s a very efficient process for millions and millions of units it’s not very efficient process in terms of cost for small numbers of viennese something like the ice cream manufacturing process where we take cubes and we bend them into shape to make a space frame and then bonding composite panels between the tubes and to give stiffness and enhance crash performance that’s a much more cost-effective way to build a chassis there are a number of advantages apart from the cost and the the the lower investment so with the ice cream process is actually easier to make changes to the chassis because you are just working with been tubes and and composite panels and the finish on the composite panels doesn’t have to be great so so we definitely very very high quality tooling so it’s cheap to make new parts should we need variation on a chassis the the innovation in manufacturing high-volume composites is really going to be in cycle times and and dimensional integrity of dimensional stability so we’re getting a bit more of a handle on dimensional stability at the moment and cycle times are coming down we’re working with a Japanese company at the moment who have part cycle times of less than a minute and that’s that’s essential for high volume high throughput manufacturing processes what we have to prove now is is whether it can pass crash tests whether it has the durability to go the distance and we’ve already made inroads into that with altair for the the stiffness now analysis and we’ve done comparisons with conventional vehicles it’s come out very favorably we’re and now we’re making inroads into the crash analysis as well at the moment it’s been a simple supplier relationship with Altair in the future we hope to move on to partnering on the optimisation side of things and certainly in in the crash optimization as well
