[ENG CC] Honda Aero battle – Mugen Civic FD2 RR, Modulo FD2, S2000 Type S Tsukuba 2008

Aerodynamics down-force
difference – 5 laps battle. This is a standard S2000. Although the rivals
are a bit faster, I’ll try to compare my car to them from the point of view of FR
sports layout, driving pleasure and fun level. S2k Type S. I can’t get defeated be the FF cars behind me. Because I got this rear wing
now, I should be able to win. We’ve got here some 2.2l S2000’s and Civic’s today,
lined up for the “down-force’ battle. I have no clue how it’s gonna end but I’ll be having
fun, the normal version should be fast as well. Normal vs. aerodynamically tuned. That’s the main title today. I’m going to try to score a goal
with this Modulo Civic Type R. This is Mugen Civic. The difference to the other Civic Type
R is that I got two R’s, it’s RR. For that reason it costs
+2 million Yen more. It sure feels a bit too pricy. So I’m expecting to see
it performing adequately. The grid is based on time
attack results in reverse order. FF vs. FR. The battle starts. Hattori’s RR goes off with
intense acceleration. Both S2k’s stay in the same order
and enter the first corner. Ida’s Type R fell back to the
last position quickly. Let’s see the replay. I failed. OK. I’m quick, thanks to +15Hp. Hanzo is fast. What is he up to. Though it looks to be a mild start
for the Mugen RR, right Hacchyan? Did I really get +15Hp more power? Both S2k’s managed to spread
the lead on the Civic squad. The high speed cornering feels faster. He’s right in my shadow. Kinoshita’s Type S is pushing Ara’s S2000. Miss-shifting under pressure. What a slow down. I miss shifted. +15Hp go fast! I’ll eat up the Type S. Let’s go! Doridori, overflown with
energy, attacks at once! What a harsh entry. Kinchyan pay attention. Am I slower already? Yes, sorry, but the all
star civic’s are coming from behind. Damn. Kinchyan that’s dangerous. Do they get me in
the last corner? Ida’s Type R closes the
gap with late braking too. You all, this is a bit dangerous. That Civic is fast. 2.2l FR is slower than 2.0l FF?
Well it’s sad but true. They’re fast behind me. They’re quicker than I expected. Well we also got the double R. The S2k, the poor S2K. Although Doridori pities the S2K,
he attacks without any remorse. Sorry for this. Hey, he’s quick. The Modulo is really good. So, so, so. Fast, fast. I’m slightly lagging
behind on the straight. What a lie! On the straight?! The Double R got finely tuned
IHE, its acceleration is faster. I managed to out-corner the S2K. And the next one. Ida’s Civic Type R overtakes too. The R is quick, it’s real. So, there’s just the one car, the Modulo. Both S2k got overtaken even
by the normal R, let’s hope Kinoshita’s Type S
won’t get beaten by Ara’s S2k too. Type S owns the Dunlop corner obviously. The tires feel a bit tired. According to the specs the normal
R should have softer suspension. The brakes too. What a great match. I suppose I will not win this one. What a lie! Civic squad is faster~~!. Hey Ara, there’s no reason
to wave hands. Hattori’s RR is locked
on Tsuchiya’s Modulo. Where’s he going to attack? He just under steered. He under steered. The car got a bit too much
under steer friendly. Going neatly though tight
corners, that’s the Mugen. I hope I shake him off here. My car feels to be less
prone to under steer. Thanks to 10mm lower
suspension and 10% stiffer spring rates, the Mugen
seems to have upper hand. Small corners feel faster,
that’s probably suspension related and the tires
seem to be different too. If we compare both cars, from
entry to mid point, the Modulo is faster, but Mugen’s corner
exit acceleration is faster. So, so, so. It’s the final lap. Hacchyan there’s just one lap left to go. Ah I can’t get close enough. Hattori is persistent. The real track performance of both
cars speaks for themselves today. Here I’m able to spread the lead slightly. This is pretty serious battle. From Dunlop up to 80R, the
stability is really good. Aah, the straight performance
is worse than I thought. In the end, the Modulo managed to
beat the Mugen. I won this one. 240Hp, 4.8 million Yen
worth double R managed to get under 7seconds in
its best lap. On the other hand, Type S’s
aero wing brings better driving feel though the difference in
best lap time is miniscule. I wasn’t able to feel the
+15HP power up though. I recommended to set the front
dampers to 4, rear to 5, but after this race, the front set
to 5 would’ve been even better. There’s slightly more under steer in tight corners
which has to be accounted for in driving strategy.
