DIY Car Repair Quick Tip #10: How to Keep Your Fender Cover in Place When Working on Your Engine

anytime you’re working on the engine of your car or around the front section of it you should use a fender cover the fender cover will protect the paint not only like from scratches on buttons on your clothes or from hitting with a tool but it will also protect the paint from spills of some chemical that can damage the paint particularly brake fluid so I always like to pull out a fender cover maybe two fender covers if I’m working back and forth in the engine compartment this is a typical fender cover it just sits right up here it has a little flap like that that kind of goes over into the engine compartment but a lot of times there’s things sticking up that keep the fender cover from securely staying in place for instance you’ll start working on like this and you know the fender cover will get knocked off now there are a couple solutions a couple times I’ve used masking tape to actually tape the fender cover on or there’s another solution that I want to show you right now and that is a fender cover that has a magnet in the top edge look at that see that so when I roll this fender cover up over the top of the fender that magnet is going to stick right down in there and now when I bump into it say it’s not gonna fall off if you’re wondering where to get these type of fender covers they’re available many auto parts stores or you can search the internet but I highly recommend that you do use a fender cover and consider this type if you don’t have a lot of room around the inside lip of your front fenders
