Design vs Engineering. The people behind the awards

the design starts with a sketch you know I’ve been inspired by things like playing with my kids Lego I’m constantly being exposed to things that are giving me ideas and whenever you’re designing something it’s never a nine-to-five thing it’s it’s a 24/7 thing and you know if you’re open and the ideas are constantly flowing and it’s it’s a constant thing I’m clearly an engineer and my whole world relates to numbers and how we can express the proportions of a vehicle in dimensions while ever unconscious I’m looking at how we can engineer things differently I grew up with Meccano I’ve always been interested in in structures and I can’t explain why I guess it’s part of the engineering thing I do a lot of welding at home good house should have between six and eleven coffee tables designers and engineers are both essential in the development of any vehicle and yet in in many ways we were quite different designers see engineers as as number-crunching geeks wearing still captures the kind of people who have no imagination at all engineers on the other hand see designers as wearing really pointy shoes with turtlenecks and sports jackets the process is about finding the sweet spot between the appearance function of the product so you know I think in many ways that tension can be a good thing because what it ends up doing is it ends up bringing the best out of everybody you end up with with a much much better vehicle the reason that Ford family of cars has picked up so many awards recently is because we’ve really come to learn about who our customer is and what they want to have other people tell us what a great product it is that was Pig
