Car Battery Maintenance Tips + Bloopers | Car Repair Sun City | Automotive Dynamics

hi my name is dawn this is the first of a series of helping tips for automotive able to keep issues with their cars hopefully some of these tips will be an advantage to you or maybe you’ve seen some of these in the past so one of the things I’d like to tell you about is this is a story of something that actually happened to myself I hate to admit that I’ve been a tech for 40 years but this is something I can share with you that happened to me and maybe it’ll keep it from happening to yourself I’m going to talk about batteries today and in regards to batteries we’re going to talk about why sometimes batteries don’t last very long and sometimes to why batteries are dead when they’ve not been used for a very long time at all so part of the problem is is that battery maintenance is very important and even though a battery says it’s made my battery still has water of some sort in there the plates inside the demonstration is I’m going to show you what battery voltage is just between a negative and a positive post of a battery on this meter so that you can see what the voltage is as you’ll notice the voltage is a little bit low normal voltage is about 12 and a half volts that you would see on a battery so what I want to share with you as this battery is down and here’s the reason why it’s down so I have a negative probe from my meter hook to the negative side of the battery I’m going to take this positive probe now and I’m just going to touch different spots on the battery and as we still see is is that you’ll see that the voltage that’s draining through the top of this battery because of the dampness on the top of the battery is actually sucking the power so it’s very very important that you keep a battery clean and it’s dry because as you can see based on what type of residues on top of this battery it’s not very much but the voltage is substantial I think it’s over 6 volts so just taking and cleaning your battery from time to time will help keep and make that battery lasts longer also another tip is these small battery chargers that charge a half an amp they’re called battery buds those things are very advantageous you take a wet by motorcycle battery average life expectancy of one of those batteries is about 12 months but if you use a battery bud on there anytime that you’re not using that battery I averaged about three years on one of those batteries by using one of those small chargers and just leave it on there all the time it will not overcharge your battery so hopefully you’ll find these tips useful and I’d like to say that there’s a series of more of these tips coming thanks to automotive dynamics for sharing the facility so that we can share these tips with you please look forward to seeing you okay
