Build a Career the Toyota Way

Build a Career the Toyota Way

I thought it was just going to be a steady, robotic job.
People just going in, putting the door on, putting the window in…
A very big misconception was corrected within the first week.
Every single day there’s something new and exciting for us to hear about or to learn about.
There’s a lot of opportunities for women for advancement, to team leader group leader, assistant manager.
So many levels of management.
I started working at Toyota right out of graduating from Waterloo.
It’s given me a firm foundation to build my career on.
I like the diversity of the different shops that you can go work in.
You can have different sort of careers all under one roof.
The sense of teamwork is huge.
We win almost every year.
They will even support you with your education
Working for smaller companies before, I never had any real goals at growing within them.
Here at Toyota I do.
It’s made me want to be a better person.
I really like the security and stability
of the employment.
It helps me understand that my kids are provided for.
Moving to Cambridge to take this job has allowed me to buy a house.
I’ve traveled more of the world.
I noticed quickly that the motto was ‘safety first’ and putting people before the cars.
I like to go to Corolla Park.
Its a free gym membership.
You can go and focus on your health, and try and have a work-life balance.
They go above and beyond…
Make sure we’re always acknowledged for our contributions to the company.
Toyota gives back to the community by doing certain things, like ‘Habitat for Humanity’.
We’re involved with making sure that the vehicle is built in a sustainable way….
I like that I’m contributing to that.
The number of cars we produced last year, we brought zero percent to landfills.
That’s a pretty big feat for a company this big.
Every time I see a Corolla roll by or a Lexus roll by, it’s really neat to think that…
I’ve seen that being built from the ground up.
It’s very fulfilling to do any product design….
Or product quality, and feel that you’ve made a difference in someone’s life.
The automotive industry as a whole is moving toward lower emissions, more electric vehicles…
more hybrid vehicles…
It’s very exciting to be in that kind of environment.
It’s nice that I was able to become part of this team.
