Binder meets Salvagnini – Flexible manufacturing system for subcontractor manufacturing


The Binder company was founded by the
engineer Hermann Binder in Austria in 1989. Binder is an industrial plant manufacturer
and one of the leading companies in Austria. Binder has 250 employees in the group and has a total of 5 locations
spread around Austria and one in Hungary. We have approx. 150 employees here in Hungary
who are involved in steel construction, plant engineering, sheet metal construction, robot welding as well as
in thin sheet metal production. We currently employ 40 staff in a 4-shift
operation in sheet metal production. We annually produce about 5000 tons of sheet metal
and another 5000 tons of construction steel. Our target markets are Germany,
Austria and Switzerland. We manufacture in clean room quality for
the clean room industry in the sheet metal production sector and are suppliers for shopfitting, cold room
construction as well as rack systems and shelf construction. Our main strength lies in providing
tailor-made customer solutions, where we rely on the ultra-modern
machinery from Salvagnini. We can punch, laser cut and bend components
which are up to 4 meters long, and process different
sheet metal thicknesses. Until 2012, we were manufacturing manually
with conventional punching machines and press brakes. The problem which arose with conventional
production was the high level of transport and handling damage
that was caused. As early as 2009, we were already
looking for a panel bender and a conventional punching machine
with integrated tray store. As part of the decision-making process,
however, we realized that an integrated solution was the best for us due to
our large variety of parts. With this integrated solution,
we are now able to manufacture the smallest batch sizes
without intermediate handling. By manufacturing in line,
damage is now reduced to the minimum. The Salvagnini system enables us to satisfy, and comply with,
our customers’ requirements in the best possible way. Due to the short set-up times required,
we can manufacture regardless of batch size. Due to the multiple punching head,
the integrated right-angle shear on the S4, and the tool changer on the P4,
we are able to manufacture in kit production. Thanks to the shortened production times
for our own product for the clean room industry, we have also been operating
as a subcontractor since 2015. We were already able to invest
in another line just 2 years later as a result of the positive
customer response. In order to be able to respond even better
to our customers’ wishes and to be much more flexible, we have invested in an SL4
punch laser combined machine. The most recent investment
was an S4+P4 for small parts. We can now manufacture components
up to 1950 mm long with this system. A friendly partnership collaboration
has developed with Salvagnini since commissioning the
first machine back in 2012. Due to the full utilization,
customer service is extremely important for us and Salvagnini generally
reacts within 24 hours. Compared to the past, we can now
produce more quickly,more economically and with much higher quality.
