BEST Black Trim Restorer in the Auto Detailing Industry | Unbelievable.

so we are about to take this and make it look black again it’s a black trim restoration I’ve talked about it before solution finish is my favorite product in the history of history’s and I actually got it from Darren priest at auto fetish detail like maybe two and a half three years ago and I’ve been using it ever since it’s fantastic now basically in this video I just want to show you guys how it works my exact steps to restore black trim and explain a few nuances along the way so here’s what it looks like right now okay so the question becomes Luke how can I keep my black trim from not doing this how can I keep it from fading how can I keep it black well yes you can protect it regularly you can do all of that stuff I actually just got my hands on a a black trim ceramic coating like a dedicated black trim ceramic coating which I’m going to be reviewing by the way because it’s sweet and I’m probably gonna be using it on this but basically let me just explain to you guys this process real fast number one you have to be dealing with black trim that is porous I talked about this and it’s really important because if you miss this part it’s like all downhill from there basically this black trim is porous what I mean is it’s like like if you ever learned in like a biology class your cell has like a semi permeable membrane there’s certain things that get in there’s certain things that go out but not all things go in and out okay so if I were to pour you know if I want to throw a brick at this the brick does not go through the pores but if I pour a dye on to this there’s a level of that dye that’s going to be wiped off but there’s also a level of that dye that will actually permeate through the pores themselves and much like your cell it will allow it in and there will allow some things out and the world goes round so you have to be dealing with porous or like what what maybe is more technically like semi permeable black trim that’s kind of how I think about it at least and apart from that the other types of black trim you’re gonna find are gonna be like around the windows and that is not porous black trim it’s more like rubber maybe you might find it gosh on well anyway there’s on the back of like some side view mirrors that sometimes they’re made of a trim that’s not actually porous it’s much more smooth basically if you get real close and you look here you can see these tiny little dots all over the place that’s probably good indication that it’s porous if you get up close and it’s not there it’s just very smooth you can’t feel any texture no design probably means it’s non-porous in which case you can just use a mild polish and it should restore it back to normal but for the sake of this video here’s what we’re gonna do basically I’ve got two different cleaners here I’ve got number one McGuire’s all-purpose cleaner diluted ten-to-one and then I’ve got an alcohol water solution it’s distilled water and rubbing alcohol it’s just cut 50/50 then I’ve got two different microfiber towels here one of which I’m going to be throwing away in the end and then I’ve got a little tiny foam sort of craft brush and then I’ve got my product solution finish okay once again this is more or less a dye okay it’s like a dye that’s going to seep into the pores it’s kind of an instant fix there’s a very big difference between black trim restoration and black trim protection or maybe enhancement okay it’s kind of the difference between like paint correction and paint protection they’re they sound the same but they’re different okay so when I am restoring black trim I am very literally dying that specific piece back to its original black appearance when I am maintaining or protecting black trim I’m simply protecting a black trim piece that is already showing its original black color I’m simply inhibiting or maybe like slowing down the fading process I’m not restoring anything okay so it’s like the difference between waxing paint and pretend and correcting paint one is fixing one is potentially like a proactive measure rather than like a fix okay point being this is going to be a fix okay so products like back to black or maybe like Chemical Guys VRP those are dressings made to go over a black trim that is already black okay so that’s not what we’re doing here so let’s go ahead and start cleaning this so this is not the difficult part but I am just gonna spray McGuire’s all-purpose cleaner all over it right not being like crazy I’m not being too much too little it’s just like I’m gonna spray as much as I need not a complicated thing okay here’s what I’m gonna do for the sake of this video I’m going to clean only this top part well I’m sorry I’m only going to proced or this top part I’m only the other part faded just so you guys can see the difference and be before-and-after so I use the Maguire’s all-purpose cleaner to basically scrub it clean and then I follow up with my alcohol solution this is me being a bit OCD but basically alcohol just removes any sort of sealants waxes protectant it’s going to remove any oils and so this is just basically like an extra measure you can leave it let it dwell for a quick second you can even work it in with your hands if you really want to I know what you’re thinking why wouldn’t you use a brush you sicko well I just don’t know alright so I’m going to take the clean side of my microfiber and I’m gonna wipe that alcohol solution off and it will dry very quickly alcohol more or less flash dries even if it’s not in the Sun and this summer in Middle Tennessee in Nashville it is blazing alright so generally I’d be a little bit more detailed but again this for the sake of this video so at this point I really only need three things I’ve got my little craft paint brush I’ve got my solution finish and I’ve got my microfiber towel very simply I’m going to shake up the solution finish okay I am going to put a very little bit onto my paint brush and I’m going to apply it like this like maybe I would rubbing alcohol on a napkin okay I’m not going to overdo it a little bit of this goes a very very long way alright and I’m just gonna start up here and I’m basically just going to wipe it back and forth there’s no sense in like forcing yourself to do some sort of crosshatch pattern it’s just not like it’s just not necessary I’m going to get a little bit on the paint it’s not a big deal all righty you guys can see why this black trim restoration process is something that as a pro detailer you would want to charge at least not a significant but at least a good amount of money for because it is very tedious and when you are dealing with a lot of black trim it’s going to take a more significant amount of time all right hopefully you guys can see that the amount of kind of coverage that this solution finished that bit that tiny tiny little drop just covered it covered a lot of area and basically I can continue to spread it around as long as I have at least a little bit so this is what I mean when I say a little bit goes a very very long way even I am kind of surprised right now there we go obviously I’m covering the rest of my brush with it all right it’s not gonna hurt the paint when it gets on it you guys can see I got it all over here it very simply it wipes off the paint I’m gonna take my microfiber towel I’m gonna wipe up the excess there’s no need to let it sit and dwell for any length of like no like significant amount of time right okay BAM done and done all right I’m gonna go ahead and do the rest we’ll come in and look at this compared to the rest [Music] so the light is a little tricky here but just bear with me obviously you guys can see the difference before and after it’s very very clear you can see the contrast between what was not done and then right here you know of course that’s not done and then what was done and hopefully it’s also clear that the there’s a few advantages to this product and I don’t really have any cons that I could say other than if you’re if you’ve never thought about it you want to make sure you put the top back on it before you set it down on the ground because I have at times left the top off and kicked it over and it really pisses you off and got it ruins your day but apart from that it doesn’t stay in the paint it doesn’t take any dwell time so you saw I could wipe it on or wipe it off and bam we’re done and then outside of that it is an amazing restoration product like this right here is is if not it’s the same if not better than its original condition when this car was bought I’m pretty sure this is like a 2005 as well so this is really old black trim and it’s totally restored what I’m gonna do is spray a little alcohol on it basically I just want you guys to see that even with absolutely zero dwell time and again the most simplistic application I possibly could have ever done when I wipe alcohol at my alcohol solution all over it it’s totally restored totally back to normal nothing’s wiping off once again not a protectant a true restoration so check this out not done done not done done not done done okay so you guys can see even after I’m wiping it with alcohol it’s still all completely black again true restoration it looks amazing you can see that before and after other thing I’d like to point out is how little I used right I literally tilted this very tiny little dot on to this little paintbrush three times and I did all of that quite honestly I could have done it twice but sometimes it just you know for the sake of the video I just make it easier on myself it lasts I mean a little bit goes a very long way so this is 100% I just think it’s unmatched on the market this is the best restoration black trim restoration product you gonna get it just there’s not one out there that’s gonna perform better so that being said if you’d like to get your hands on the solution finish I’m gonna hook up at Amazon link below as always unashamedly I get a very small Commission if you buy from my links so if you do get the solution finished definitely use the link below in the description
