Automotive Theory Simulations—Conceptual

(light ambient music)Hello and welcometo Cengage’s Automotive Simulations. This is a brief overview of the features and the functionality of one of the understanding the concepts simulations. Clicking on the Using the Simulation button brings you to a brief video that describes how the simulation works, what the buttons do, and the functionality of the simulation is explained and it explains the scoring of how the student will be graded for completing the simulation. Clicking on Understanding the Concepts beings you to a video that explains the underlying concepts that will be addressed in each of these simulations. Watching these videos is important and necessary for the student so that they can successfully complete the simulation and answer the questions at the end of each simulation. Clicking on Enter the Simulation takes you to activity one. Activity one may begin with an explanation of the simulation, it may begin with an activity or it may begin with a question. It just depends on what the simulation is. Once we’re in, we’re provided with the voiceover and the closed captioning which can be controlled through the menu bar and directions are given to complete this particular activity. We can rewind and replay directions if a section was missed. We can turn the closed captioning and the voiceover off and on and can even control the volume. From our menu button we can see the tasks for each activity. We can also go back and watch the videos if we did not do that beforehand and we can see the list of activities and jump between the activities. Now, in this activity one we’re sliding these adjustments so that they will show how changes in resistance, changes in voltage affect an electrical circuit and how that is analogous to water flowing through a hydraulic circuit. Once a student has experimented with these, they can continue and then they get a popup question and we’ll just randomly select an answer here and if the student answers incorrectly they are shown the correct answer and then their score report will reflect the answer that they chose. Once all activities are completed, the students are taken to the end of simulation review questions and then once those are answered, a score report is provided which gives detail about each activity and each question.
