Automotive Technology, TAFE South Australia

my name’s Matt Spiro I emigrated to Australia from the UK in 2008 and I started a diploma of automotive technology at TAFE South Australia well my passion to become writing mechanics because I’ll see my two mechanics being very similar to a doctor or a surgeon and the engine of a car is very much like the human heart if your heart not working properly your body’s not going to work as efficiently so you’re gonna need a doctor or a surgeon to fix it and it’s the same with a motor vehicle if the engine is not working in need the mechanic to fix it that’s my the my reason I chose to study at TAFE South Australia when I wanted to the same type of course in the UK they facilities were rather poor and so as a consequence nine of people wanted to training the industry and so the course was cancelled compared to the UK they presented at TAFE si are excellent they’ve got all they current tools and equipment that you wouldn’t even need in a modern workshop the main key to the course was hands-on practical skill development along with Theory work and work placement within the automotive repair industry we were taught from start to finish how its individual components of motor vehicle works then how they work in the whole system of the motor vehicle we were also given the knowledge of how to maintain and repair all these components the core focus of the course was repair and service of engines steering suspension braking systems cooling systems electrical systems fuel systems and cooling systems of course dutiful teachers had to prepare and service mostly it also taught us the knowledge that you would need as a workshop manager or owner all aspects such as customers work invoicing budgeting any environmental issues such as disposal of hazardous waste such as used oil and coolant we were also taught about any legislative requirements that we would need to know being a workshop owner or manager such as occupational health and safety issues we were trying to be job ready and management ready I feel that the other lecturers that taught us on the course had real passion and drive to teach the subject because they’ve all worked with in a motor vehicle repair industry at one time or another my aim for the future I think is to a full-time job within the motor vehicle repair industry and carry on with learning about the industry then maybe in a few years time I would like to open my own workshop where people can actually come fix the vehicles in their own time and if they have got any problems I could use my knowledge but I’ve learnt only diploma course to assist them with any problems that they’ve got you
