Automotive Technician tool Tricks and hacks for mechanics

today we’re bringing you an episode of tech tricks I’m gonna show you some cool tricks that will help you work on cars let’s start with some cool tool tricks that I have learned regular swivel socket droopy floppy piece of junk right okay here’s an even floppier one like this one this is the one we’re gonna use it back this guy right here look at this floppy dong doesn’t do anything imagine trying to put a socket on there and then getting it up in a corner with an extension it’s not gonna happen grab yourself your orange kit hey that won’t work now what we need to do we need to take this o-ring stretch it over top of this guy right okay bring it down wrap it just like that see how it’s sitting there like that no like this it’s not floppy any longer the coolest thing is it will hold a big socket – this is a 13 millimeter socket it doesn’t quite hold it perfectly but look how close that is I mean and this is a swivel that is broken so you might think this was the floppiest swivel ever that’s for a reason it’s broken I just noticed it’s literally missing a pin here now if I were to have put this on a good swivel I can guarantee you this socket would hold straight if I were to let go of it it wouldn’t fall down at all but because this thing is physically broken the pin is literally broken it’s unable to hold the 13 millimeter straight but it does hold it enough so you could if you’re trying to get it in there you could you could try and work your way into getting where you need to get to now the next one is more talking I’ve done it in a previous video so I will try and cut that clip and [Music] now you can see I am welding in that stud hole what I’m doing when I weld in that that that stud is I’m building up material I’m heating it up and if there’s any Loctite in there the Loctite has now released because it’s gotten hot if there’s any rust I have no shocked it with a temperature change if there’s any other reason it’s stuck in there aside from a rolled thread this will guarantee you getting the stud or a broken bolt over there and when you do this you will the nut on so you build up a knob if it’s too deep you’ll have to build up a knob on there and then you weld up a nut on top of that and when you do that you’re able to grab a hold of it and take it out sometimes it helps to shock it with a hammer if it’s a really really stuck one and sometimes it takes a few tries to get it out but it will come out and it will work spark plug sockets the pesky spark plug sockets I cannot stand that little rubber thing inside spark plug sockets when I’m putting spark plugs in a overhead cam order where the spark plug has to go down in the middle because what will happen is you’ll put that thing down there and you’ll thread that plug in and then you go to pull up and your extension will be stuck great now what you know there is a set of extensions that has a locking mechanism and they work but there’s a better solution remove that stupid plug okay remove that stupid plug over there grab yourself a 5/16 hose make it longer than this however long you need it put it on the end of that spark plug you’re doing push it on there okay holds it in place put it down in the hole thread it in pull it up then take your socket and put it on there that way when you don’t have that rubber in the socket it won’t get stuck transmission jack stand if you have a limited shock like I do I’m small I have very little room in here my engine stand takes a lot of space but it collapses and if I were to have a jack stand as well it would take a are too much space that’s just too much floor space for this little garage you can take your jack stand or your your cherry picker your engine puller and turn it into a jack for a transmission believe it or not it can be a jack for transmission with a little bit of leverage and ingenuity and it works awesome I actually prefer that over a regular transmission jack especially with my kind of hoist because I could straddle the hoist to where it’s not causing an issue and it works phenomenal the video of when I did it is right here [Music] it works so awesome have you ever been working on a car and add that twisted pair of wires that you needed to replace because the ends of it were corroded or there is a bad spot in the middle and you wanted to replace a large section of it but you were confused how do I do that simple very very simple trick you take your two wires okay that you’re gonna be twisting together shut them in the vise here grab your cordless drill put the end in the cordless drill make sure you make the wires long of course you pull it tight [Music] [Music] [Music] now I have myself that’s what’s that there best way to make a twisted pair you could possibly come up with you can make it any length you want I am glad to have brought to you some interesting tech help a little tricks of the trade that I have blurted out how to fix do tools that come in handy things like that I may actually start including them here in their own videos and we’ll see how that goes for you let me know if you notice it let me know if you like it comment to low you’ve seen this video after you’ve seen some of my other previous prep books yeah that transmission jam thing was one of the best things I ever invested my time and doing the lever mechanism in there if you didn’t notice it’s just a round tube crushed at the ends I there’s nothing fancy or was a quick I just whipped it up real fast did in fact the video that you’ve seen was from probably a year ago and I took footage of it posted it on Facebook I had to download it back from Facebook because I completely lost a video myself the stud removeable that was over two years ago but it doesn’t matter because you know what I found the video it was on my Google+ of all things so be sure to maybe check out my Google+ I just started a reddit hopefully I’ll be able to post a video soon I have to wait three days to do that by the time you see this video I’ll have plenty posted out in there so feel free to check out my reddit Facebook is my most common and that’s why I put the link below this video for you guys to look at and click on other than that like share subscribe and as always thanks for watching and I hope to see you on another video
