so hello and welcome to England software’s webinar today my name is Christopher wet I work with influencer marketing team and I will be hosting today’s webinar title automotive and medical technology trends in 2018 let me just start with a few words about today’s agenda now those that regularly visit our blog and and attend our webinars know that we like to analyse future trends in our target markets and every year around the beginning we take a look at what analysts are saying about the automotive and medical markets and draw the consequences and this helps us and our customers of course better understand the challenges they need to prepare for going forward and also provides a bit of insight into how the next year will ship out to be and generally of course we don’t usually lump these two separate industries together and describe trends in a single webinar so you may be asking why did we choose to talk about automotive and medical trends together this year and well so the reason is that while these industries are of course way different and are driven forward by different technologies they do seem to draw up on a few common technologies technology is that were developed specifically for them for ultimately for for medical use but that are transforming all sorts of industries right now and this change is making a significant impact on these two sectors as well I’m talking about artificial indulgence big data and blockchain technology these are causing revolutionary shift across industry sectors right now so in this webinar I will first take a look at these technologies that could fundamentally change the way the automotive and the healthcare sectors work in 2018 and then I will talk about the trends shaping the math tech industry’s future this year and I will also analyze recent current and future trends in automotive development I will then describe some of the challenges awaiting math tech and automotive developers in this new and news to most of you but the most important new technologies that are impacting all sorts of industries right now are Big Data artificial intelligence and more recently blockchain now you must have heard these terms a thousand times in the past few years and especially in 2017 they have been hot topics in the world of technology for years and in fact it seems like they are just becoming more and more important and while there has been a lot of talk about all three of them experts believe that they will truly begin to impact our everyday lives this year in in 2018 big data has been a buzzword for quite a while but it’s only becoming more and more relevant and and important and as because as you know all sorts of sensors are being built into all types of products today and i ôd connectivity is becoming a standard this enables these devices to record data about their operation and their environment and to communicate with each other using the Internet of Things and to transfer all that data to a central computing infrastructure and this of course leads to the multiplication of the amount of data that we have access to this brings a growing need to make sense of all the data and to leverage it as the valuable resource that it is and so standalone hardware devices are increasingly replaced by a system of systems products this process too is greatly supported by Big Data you know products that were previously Hardware only devices are now being offered as parts of a larger product ecosystem software and service components are becoming part of the value offering and in fact focus is actually shifting away from hardware components to emphasize software and the innovative services that these new set up enables so now we have access to more and more data ok but until now challenges including data security and data processing meant that we haven’t really been able to fully leverage the power of Big Data and so what’s interesting is that in 2018 two other technologies are maturing into everyday use and they should help us resolve these challenges these technologies are essentially enabling us to make the most of Big Data first of course there’s the challenge of exchanging data securely through wireless connections sure we have you know IOT connectivity and a lot of our products and the sensors that I was talking about that are recording all sorts of information but some of that data is sensitive you don’t want to have your location health or any other kind of personal information just being sent around unencrypted on the internet of things and that’s why cyber security and data security have become concerns in more and more industries in you know in recent years we’ve seen cars being hacked on the road there have been a number of high-profile healthcare data breaches and the variety other cybersecurity scandals and as we’re adding more and more sensors and connectivity and software to our products there’s going to be a lot more opportunities for hackers to break in or to intercept our data this has been one of the most pressing concerns in the world of technology and with blockchain we might now have a possible solution blockchain is the technology behind Bitcoin last year’s cryptocurrency fad now most of you probably heard a lot more about Bitcoin than you wanted to in 2017 and it’s not to say that Forbes magazine simply stated that 2017 will be remembered as the year of Bitcoin now okay so whether or not bitcoin is really going to revolutionize the world or you know become the largest financial bubble we have seen in a while that is total question but what seems to be certain is that the technology it is built on blockchain has real chance of redefining digital trust as we know it it does have its limitations but blockchain stands a real chance at disrupting several industries and essentially ending our data security issues this would enable us to safely transfer any data between devices and into the cloud and with the challenge of data security tackled the next one we need to work on is that processing all this data and that’s what the other omnipresent technology artificial intelligence could help with now AI of course has in vast number of use cases and that’s only going to expand as the technology construction and further develops but it does tie into Big Data too and that’s because AI will make it easy for us to or at least easier for us to analyze to make sense off and to build valuable services on the extremely large amounts of data that is becoming a lot available to us train deep learning is one of the ways that AI will contribute to the disruption of industries including the automotive and medical sector [Music] excuse me self-driving technology it greatly benefits from the opportunities open up by artificial intelligence and in fact AI is one of the key enabler technologies there as we will see but however disruptive autonomous technology itself could be AI actually contributes to way more than to self-driving cars it could power service innovation and it could open up new opportunities in terms of business so we it will help automotive developers and medical service providers and greater of other companies find new sources of revenue which overall could really transform the industries in ways we have no way of knowing yet and so to summarize we can now record in immense amounts of data using all sorts of sensors we can transfer the data safely both to other devices and to the cloud using lightning fast and secure wireless connections such as 5g which is also being developed right now and we have the smart technology to analyze the data using AI and to build innovative services using the data on a global scale so that is how these three key pieces of technology come together to really enable fundamental change in the automotive and digital healthcare sectors as well as a number of other industries so let us now take a look at how these technologies will affect these industries the trends they are shaping the world of automotive and medical technology and what analysts expect to see in this coming year so first off we’re gonna take a look at how you know what to expect in in medical technology in 2018 I’m gonna start with our analysis back from 2016 and 2017 that you can read in our blog so the main trend spending over the past few years is of course the digitalization of healthcare this is further supported by another important factor and that is the adoption of a new integrated and value-based approach to healthcare the sector increasingly focuses on prevention and positive measurable outcomes and this goes hand-in-hand digitalization looking back in 2016 in terms of technology we have identified mobile remote and virtual care as the main areas of development in digital healthcare last year in 2017 we have seen several technologies emerge or gained more traction in the world of medical technology I’m talking about you know electronic health records 3d printing connected wearables and other mobile devices and of course health applications which have been key areas of development to 2017 challenges last year for developers of medical technology included changes in the regulatory environment and of course data security concerns so what’s happening this year in 2018 now first and foremost as in many other industries data is set to become this year’s buzzword in healthcare analysts expect to see a lot more data oriented healthcare solutions on the market EHR or electronic health records these systems are expected to gain a lot more traction and basically become standard in medical care mobile and wearable devices and mobile apps will develop and spread further and they will continue to generate a lot more health data these devices will contribute to improving and extending healthcare outside the realms of doctors offices or you know the hospital there’s also an increasing pattern of customers taking ownership of their healthcare needs and these devices will for the support Dell experts are also predicting more solutions for real-time monitoring and reporting and not only in healthcare per se so already we see signs of tying in patient data from mobile devices to health insurance providers this means that the hub monitoring data that is coming from mobile vices will help influence insurance policies and cost and so analysts believe this process will accelerate further in 2018 with new partnerships and new service opportunities new source of revenue being opened up right so with all that focus on data and you know artificial intelligence blockchain they are really expected to greatly expand and drive change in digital healthcare use cases of artificial intelligence in medical technology include supporting clinical decision making and identifying patient health risk factors well in advance based on you know global population data other technology is seeping into the the medical sector our virtual reality and 3d printing both of which are expected to grow further this year VR has been used for several years in medical education and its use cases are projected to expand further in teaching stuff like anatomy and surgical procedures and meanwhile 3d printing of tissues could bring a revolution in and transplantation and there’s also a lot of talk about bio printed materials that will impact the farm industries product testing processes challenges in medical technology in 2018 include a shifting and more stringent regulatory environment in the EU there is of course a new medical device regulation although there is no transition period right now until 2020 but developers of medical tech will actually have to prepare for that and for new regulations worldwide cybersecurity is of course still a concern and we have yet to see how deeply and how exactly blockchain will affect the industry this year another challenge for mat tech vendors is a growing focus on patient experience so as consumer electronics and healthcare devices converge traditional developers of such technology will have to step up their game in terms of software in terms of user experience they might gather all this knowledge through acquisitions or through partnering with established tech companies so this trend has the potential to really impact the industry as we know it today so 2018 is set up to the earth accelerated change in digital healthcare and in addition to technological challenges developers will also have to adapt to shifting business environment all right so that concludes the part about the medical industry let us now move on to the automotive sector and learn learn about the current and future trends and challenges so in 2016 our annual forecast predicted an increasing focus on modernization and segmented product lines these were set to aim to respond to an increasing regularity on the market where customer demands meant a growing challenge this proposed challenges for automotive developers around the topic of Product Forums management in 2016 we have also listed IOT connectivity and data management and security as the main areas of development which we mentioned in this article also contribute to self-driving development in the next year in 2017 focus has shifted to autonomous driving it’s been a hottest topic connectivity and a purification both propel the development of self-driving cars which has further accelerated last year as we have seen it continues to be the highest priority area of development in automotive technology and we have also analyzed changes in consumer behavior which proposed the growing importance of shared vehicles and new mobility providers emerging in this changing transport landscape so basically the projection is that in a couple of years the way transport is going to work is that we’re just gonna whip up our phone and call for a self-driving car on demand which is gonna come there and take us where we need to be safely and fast now in our forecast for 2017 we expected to see new partnerships being established between automotive developers and technology providers and sure enough by the end of last year it seems like all major car makers have formed relationships with tech developers to accelerate their self-driving efforts this was also affected and is actually continuing expected to affect the value stream in 2018 and how ultimately developers realize revenue in 2018 now that process of change of course is far from being completed and so we expect profound changes in the industry this year in terms of technologies autonomous driving of course remains the the most important area of development and it’s a broad area that involves related technologies such as radar and lidar 5g connectivity ADA’s or advanced driver assistance systems and self-driving software with deep learning capabilities and so on so autonomous driving is actually propelling the development of other technologies and the other way around it also goes hand-in-hand with another key industry trend that of electrification of electric vehicles or EVs now this has been a growing sector in the automotive industry for years and last year in 2017 bloomberg reported a 63 percent jump in global sales and v’s are expected to gain more traction as they become cheaper more efficient and as the infrastructure around them develops now one important thing and this is very important is that EVs are actually easier for computers to drive so the first self-driving cars on the road will likely be electric ones now if you add all those friends together and mixing a bit of Big Data and blockchain technology what you get according to industry analyst is a new era of transport this is the vision that I was explaining before so automotive experts agree that the future of Transport means fleets of shared self-driving and electric vehicles that we’ll be using on demand there’s also a pattern of declining ownership on the car market now this of course is not likely to all happen this year but the first self-driving cars are expected to hit the road as early as in 2020 right so how do artificial intelligence and big data on blockchain pave the way to this new era of transport well all three are actually key enablers to autonomous driving vt or vehicle to vehicle communication is is vital when it comes to self-driving cars and AI coupled with big data helps unlock deep learning capabilities and in fact one interesting fact is that enhance software’s customer AI motives are training a machine learning system right now for autonomous driving with the help of Kobe Maria lamb so this development is well underway now this is just a side note but if is another exciting subset of AI and of self-driving development and together they are expected to result in the first level five or fully autonomous cars hitting the road in in coming years we expect to see exciting technological advancements and new business opportunities being opened up by the development of self-driving technology in 2018 right so the exponentially increasing amount of data is also important it could also open up new sources of revenue for automotive companies and experts believe that the monetization of car data will alter the Ottoman the automotive industry as we know today but it’s also going to bring new challenges just think about the questions like well for instance we need to clarify who owns all this data is it the the car maker or the driver who has access to it especially if it’s a shared vehicle and how about privacy and security issues and perhaps even more importantly who is to benefit from all this data we expect a lot more debates around these topics this year and as I said before wherever there is data and especially sensitive personal data there are also security issues about exchanging and managing that data and this is one of the areas where blockchain technology could really impact the old the automotive industry the challenge here of course is figuring out how exactly this powerful technology should be used but there is another aspect or use case of blockchain in the automotive context that is expected to have a significant impact and that’s basically counterfeiting since it’s a public and secure ledger to keep track of transactions blockchain could help combat parts counterfeiting it could help transform the the parts supply chain and it could add more transparency to it therefore it could help car makers fix some of their major problems related to the spare parts and warranty it could help remove counterfeit parts from the market which actually harm the reputation of this car developers big time and can also cause accidents and so this is a key area where blotching really helped we could actually start to see the first signs of this this year in 2018 so like in the medical technology sector the trio of big data AAI and blockchain are expected to have significant impact in the automotive industry and it’s no wonder then that the challenges are also converging as in the the medical industry automobile regulators are struggling to catch up with the fast pace of technological innovation in the sector this means that safety standards have yet to follow up on recent automotive developments in terms of technology and so changing regulations and increasingly rigorous regulations will be one of the key challenges faced by car makers in in 2018 and going forward technologically development is advancing fast but how self-driving cars will be allowed for testing on public roads is still a question this is still not clear there’s also the question of responsibility if you think about it alternative cars are expected to be way safer and way more risk-free than you know traditional human driven ones but still there might be accidents and if there’s an accident involving an autonomous car there’s the issue of responsibility it’s a crucial problem that we have yet to overcome and there’s also the public perception and adoption of self-driving cars it could be a slow process it’s not impossible in fact it seems likely that the technology will develop faster then we could get used to seeing cars without drivers on our roads and finally let’s not forget about the exciting new partnerships between tech companies and automotive developers this is already happening and these could bring new opportunities both technologically and in terms of business that we can’t even anticipate right now but they could start to take effect as soon as in in 2018 so exciting times so overall as we have seen 2018 is definitely shaping up to be another two multis here for developers of both medical and automotive technology the three key technology is Big Data artificial intelligence and blockchain technology are expected to work hand in hand in enabling fundamental changes in all industry sectors but it’s obvious that not all the challenges faced by car makers and medical technology companies this year are technological ones we’ve been talking about changing regulations customer perceptions and new technologies and a shifting business environment and these are all going to require new answers from these developers but also promised new opportunities all right so that concludes the
