by hi my name is Leslie and I’m a body technician for Bass Chevrolet on the general day I start my day off with doing disassembles which is maybe taking a Fender or a quarter panel off and getting it ready for paint once we send it to paint it comes back and we reassemble it which is putting it back together and getting ready for the customer to come pick up okay when I get a car that’s been in an accident my job is to come in and assess the damaged of it give my boss the parts list and she take care of that and we repair what we can and send it to paint and sometimes we get a of damage that don’t require replacement panels and we use a product called bondo and it’s sometimes we have automobiles that is really damaged and we have to use a machine called a frame machine and measuring system to get it back into specs generally this is a stressful job or occasionally here and there especially when you’re dealing with customers and when you’re trying not to break things it can be a little stressful generally this is a 40-hour a week job if you are interested in this kind of work I think that education is one of the biggest things you’re going to need math and some things sometimes we have to have math or getting a car back in two specs from the manufacturer you art we do a little artwork here and a lot of the new cards are starting out with a electronics so that’s a good helpful thing to know if you can get into a technical college or college that that teaches bodywork that’s a big big help education in this field don’t ever stop even when you start working in a body shop you continue learn stuff you still have to have education classes and stuff on the new stuff new technology materials that we use for the newer cars oh the best part I like about this job is when you can take a car that is damaged and put it back like it was when it was new is amazing so if you’re interested in this kind of work one of the things you got to be prepared for is to get dirty have things the scratches and stuff on your hands oh that time sometimes it gets a little warm outside and a cold weather but I really love this job so they don’t really bother me that much if you’re interested in doing this kind of work and you’re still in school my advice to you would be in to work on your own car you start off by removing dents scratches and occasionally an offender or two here and there that’s how I did it that’s how I learned and I really enjoy this kind of work
